JN105 rambling

I watched the ep where Serena comes back yesterday and can I just say that...

IT WAS AMAZING??

I know everyone has already said this but the way they handled her return was done so well, they didn’t completely focus her character on her crush on Ash, in fact she didn’t even interact with Ash until the end of the episode.

I loved how they showed her growth, her outfit had changed completely and she was so much more confident in herself. It made me really happy for her. I also liked the fact that she wasn’t wearing the blue ribbon Ash gave her. I know it might sound weird, but I think her not wearing the blue ribbon was symbolic of her being able to move on, being able to not JUST rely on Ash to keep her going, but be able to rely on herself as well. She became independent, something she seemed to struggle with before.

I also liked the parallel between her and Aria when she was helping Chloe. She clearly saw herself in Chloe and became what Aria was to her when she was feeling down. It really reflected her growth as a person and just. Ugh.

And yes, the 28 seconds that Ash and Serena got to interact were VERY well done imo. There was no blushing, no embarrassment, no mention of the kiss. I liked it because they didn’t need all of that- just seeing each other again, seeing the way they look at each other as the boat leaves, seeing the way Serena stands there for a moment at the dock as the boat crosses the horizon...you can feel that there’s still a connection even after all of those years. Whether that connection is platonic or romantic, it doesn’t really matter because you can tell they still care for one another and that’s more than enough- for me anyway, lol.
