ok so having suffered through batman v superman, mildly enjoyed suicide squad (altho i could still go on abt how assault on arkham surpasses it in every way) and practically died at how amazing wonder woman was (gal gadget’s ww poster is sitting proudly on my wall tyvm) overall: i really enjoyed the movie!

for what the DCEU is trying to establish, it was fun and nice and had a good message abt creating a team (cough family cough). and idk it was just something good and fun. it’s not like marvel (which is a good thing. it shouldn't try to be) but its great in its own way. lets the funny heroes (like flash) be funny but ready for business and lets the serious heroes (like batman) have his brooding moments but still opportunity for some jabs. balance,

now, it felt like a very big tone shift from that pseudo-philosophy that snyder was trying to force-feed us in bvs, but that could also be b/c of whedon’s hand in it. reshoots letting some things get lost from the original vision which... idk i don't think too highly of whedon anymore, but the movie was what i think dc needed anyways. its great that we question what these heroes are capable of and how they’re using their gifts (& exploring what happens when they go against it on occasion) but sometimes you just need them to save the world, yknow? 

while not being able to expand explicitly on everyone else’s backstory/origin, and lacking that time to do so, i think they still did a lot for the casual movie goer to parse through and connect some dots. and subsequent character interactions were all really really nice

with that said tbh I'm a big wonderbat shipper mostly bc of jl/jlu (I've said it in tags but like. their flirtationship is wonderful) and while there are plenty of moments that you can gloss over and not chalk up to meaning much between bruce and diana, i still like how their relationship from the end of bvs shows that they are close now and that they have a certain understanding for each other (& may continue to grow in that like the did over the course of the movie)

im so proud that cyborg was included in this (I actually did a quick fist pump when he said boo-yah. definitely a v specific nod for fans of the teen titans 2003 series but like. childhood: complete), and the nods to green lantern were great (although my dad pointed out that there may also be nods to shazam which i think i misinterpreted in diana’s story as merely being the gods but hey, who knows. its looking like so far there’s a theory that billy might've been one of the kids interviewing superman at the beginning tho...)

there’s plenty of room for them to expand in gotham (what with bruce’s confirmed 20 yr history there??? we know b/c of bvs that a robin is gone and we know we’re getting a nightwing and batgirl movie so like??? batdad plz and thank) but also for them to continue expanding elsewhere. things might... be looking up for dc (at least from my perspective)
