I know that in the canon of some novel versions, Jiaozi is Wukong's wife, but in this "what if" scenario from a trend I saw, she chooses to marry someone else because she didn't love Wukong.

Jiaozi has conflicting feelings between her past and present. Tesla represents what she longs for most: a future and a promise fulfilled. Tesla is the man she's falling in love with, the man who doesn't see her as inferior, but as his equal. Wukong is her past, the person who broke his word when she needed him most. Sometimes first love hurts a lot.

There's mutual respect between them, and although Macaque might seem manipulative, he doesn't have those intentions. They're both driven by their shared pain. So yes, Macaque cares for her and saves her from danger when necessary.
