When Karen first met Billy Russo, he had been charming: that almost too-white smile, the crinkle around his eyes, the way he so easily bandied conversation with her in such a short walk. In any other life, Karen would have found Billy attractive, would have potentially pursued something with the man but, as the cliché went, the planets did not quite align for that to be a path she pursued (and thankfully). They’d went through this waltz before, though...and still they ended up right back here, staring one another down and defying whatever odds were not in their favor with every passing minute. When he finally walked away from her (why was his cologne so fucking pungent?), Karen let out an exhale, eyes shifting up to the ceiling. “Talk? We aren’t on a date, William.” That was when her blue gaze cut back to him. “I don’t want to get to know you and knowing you, you know enough about me already.”
