he gives her a look. the kind that speaks very clearly to the fact that he’s restraining himself from reaching across the bar to grab the folder from her. he knew that a bar frequented by aviators was a bad fucking idea. pilots are all the same. they think with their cockpit and not their head, and they have more ego than anyone. and they have no fucking clue what a real boots-on-the-ground fight entails. which is why he’s not exactly keen on them involving emily in their shit. he’s a sniper. half his job is taking out poor bastards who are in the wrong place at the wrong time and catch wind of the wrong information. the very idea of it being her on the other end of a scope — literally or figuratively — is enough to make his blood boil. ❝ just something about a flight. ❞ he speaks, giving her a look as he takes a swig of his drink. ❝ it’s never just some shit about a flight, ems. ❞

“you know, sometimes you act like you had no idea who i was before you started dating me.” all she could do was laugh, shifting the folder beneath the bar before going back to her duties of her current shift. “you do know you’re sitting in the middle of a navy bar, right? and i basically grew up on a plane?” emily could remember a lot about her childhood, the flights her dad used to take her on around town when her mom actually said yes. her body leaned against the side of the bar, eyes glistening at the sight of the man sitting on the other side. it was starting to get annoying, how in love she was with him. “why is it always okay for you to help, but not me?”
