I'm inspired by one of jiemba fanfics', "Princesa" and I got an idea about Sanvers, margaritas and Vasquez (like Maggie and Vasquez BROTP). Do you think it can be considered plagiarism? Btw jiemba, love your fics~
I think for most of us, it’s really flattering if our fics or original characters or AUs can be inspiration for fanart or spinoff works and would just ask that credit be given with a tag or a note or something. But I’m also always a big fan of reaching out and asking–just to clear the air, make sure everyone’s on the same page! I did it myself just the other day! Plus, @jiemba is good people who would probably love to hear how much you’ve been enjoying her fics!
I have zero clue what queen sugar's about but I always see tense AF gifsets on your blog and it seems like my kind of show (character-driven, dark and moody), i'll try to give it a go over summer now that I have way less work on : )
it’s sooooo good. i really feel that it’s unlike almost any other show at the moment in that the characters get like…time to breathe; time to react and process and everything. like compared to supergirl (i mean, it’s kind of insulting to compare queen sugar to supergirl lol but they’re my main two at the moment) where the characters get like 30 seconds and then its on to the next thing, queen sugar feels so refreshing. it moves quite slowly, which is not for everyone, but i love it.
it is moody and dramatic and heartbreaking, but it’s also so full of light and love and softness and caring. these incredibly complex characters who fuck up and hurt each other and make bad decisions, but who still love and support each other, or are at least trying and learning how to. it strikes a good balance between painful and hopeful.
also one of the main characters is a queer activist, and she’s amazing. all of the women on the show are, they’re allowed so much depth and so much…space? ahh i will stop, i could go on about it forever lol. it’s not without its flaws, for sure, but it really is so wonderful.
(i’m writing my final essay on it, which is why i’ve been reblogging so much recently. for the last week and a half i’ve done pretty much nothing other than rewatching, reading about and thinking about queen sugar, so i’m extra obsessed and involved at the moment.)
m8 my favourite pastime is explaining weird Australian things to polite Americans, I had the best time the other day explaining to our pure southern girl Holly that "sick cunt" is a complement and thongs go on your feet
when i was on gap year i once convinced a whole bunch of americans at my school that public buildings in australia didnt have stairs only ramps to make everything wheelchair accessible and that as a result australians didnt develop the same leg muscles bc we dont ever use stairs

For your religion question - what do you like about being Jewish? What do you wish non-Jewish people understood better about Judaism?
i like that i have an instant community pretty much anywhere i go -- there are always jews with open doors and arms and it’s just so ingrained in our culture to include strangers and open our homes to the people around us
i like that i feel connected to my history and that the religion is in some ways designed to remind us of what we’ve been through as a people and remind us of what’s important
i love that we’re made to ask questions, to challenge what we’re taught and break things apart to understand them and then rebuild them with a better understanding and appreciation of why we do what we do.
i love that we’re so analytical of our culture and our holy texts. literally the whole gemarah is a volumes long argument over the tiniest of details because analysis and critical thinking leads to a better, fuller practice of judaism
i wish non-jews understand the breadth and depth of the culture -- it’s not just white guys with jew fros in hollywood. there are so many different types of jews, so many different communities and traditions and ways of doing things. i wish i could explain things about my religion without having to laugh it off and saying ‘yeah i know it’s weird’ because every time i have to do that i die a little bit inside.
