Exploitation filmmaker Jess Franco’s supernatural take on films like Witchfinder General and Ken Russell’s The Devils, French-Portuguese 1973 film Les Demons. Voyeuristic and fetish packed, and more watchable than the similar Mark of the Devil, Les Demons reminds me more of something from the mind of late 18th century author Matthew Lewis. Bruno Nicolai - Il Conte Dracula For some of us, listening to a full orchestra sawing away on some ghostly sustained chords while French horns boom and tympani bash away never gets old. Looking back, with three decades of sync soundtracks and bedroom synth scores or even generic library music even for big budget Hollywood movies, Nicolai’s orchestral score feels outright opulent. It’s incredible to hear what a talented composer could do with masterfully-trained musicians and the resources to fully realize their work.
