Jesus Said What?!
(Luke 12:49–53)
When Jesus said, “I didn’t come to bring peace, but division,” it probably made a lot of people go, “Wait what??”
But here’s what He meant:
Following Him changes everything. It’s not always easy or popular. Sometimes, it can even cause tension with the people closest to you like family, friends, or even your partner.
The “fire” Jesus talks about? It’s not destruction, He means transformation. He came to shake things up, not just to make life comfortable.
The “division”? It’s what happens when people respond differently to truth. Not everyone will understand your faith and that’s okay.
Jesus is saying, “I must come first, even before your closest relationships.”
This doesn’t mean Jesus wants us to live in conflict. But it does mean we can’t compromise the truth of who He is for the sake of keeping the peace. Sometimes, standing for Christ means standing apart.
So what does this mean for us today?
Don’t be surprised if your faith makes others uncomfortable.
Don’t water down the Gospel to make it easier to digest.
And don’t fear the fire, it’s there to refine you, not destroy you.
The division Jesus brings isn’t about tearing people apart—it’s about drawing a line between light and darkness, truth and deception, life and death. And sometimes, to follow Him, we must be willing to be misunderstood—even by those we love.
Following Jesus takes courage. He didn’t promise it would be easy, but He did promise it would be worth it.
It's impossible to follow both Jesus and the world because they are going in opposing directions.
“The world” means living for sin, pride, and self. Jesus calls us to live for Him.
“Do not love the world… If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.”
— 1 John 2:1

If you claim to be a Christian but you are sexually immoral, you will still go to hell & the lake of fire if you don’t stop it and repent! Sin kills and deceives. Walk holy by God’s grace, if you profess Christ... Don’t be a hypocrite. Jesus saves. Love him more than self and sin!
