The Archdemon roars, and Jerran understands the intent: Destroy. Eat. Spread the Beauty of the Mistress' Creation.
The redness around him seems to explode and he emerges into an unfamiliar landscape with his fellow Darkspawn. Ichor clings to his throat; he chokes on it as he stands.
Hungry.
So hungry.
For Day 1 of @rookappreciationweek !
Every night, Jerran dreams of turning into a Darkspawn and spreading the Blight; after the events of Veilguard, the images evolve to reflect Ghilan'nain's minions. Sometimes his nightmares include traumatic instances from his past, interwoven with the Blight nightmares.
If he's lucky, he has Eleanor @a-mumbling-nerd to soothe his dreams with her Dreamer powers so he can get some rest.

@amoaliquis had the audacity to feed me this line and think I wouldn't make a thing about it and sometimes I just write stuff between midnight and 2 am.
Yes, this is about the Sock Puppets. This is the last of the Sock Puppets probably. Lucas (@apothe-cary) and Jerran (@teamtakagi) are also there.
Juan was glaring daggers at her, leaning back against the cell bars that made up one wall of the small holding cell. Despite what most outsiders believed, Treviso wasn’t lawless. Antiva was, in fact, overly litigious. There were plenty of rules which meant even more ways to break them. Most Crows knew to get away before their lax city guard caught up. Those who did get caught often did on purpose, either as part of a contract or a joke. This case was the latter.
“Awww, come on Diabolito. Lighten up.”
“Don’t call me that, there are people here!”
The woman was snickering at them, reveling in their discomfort. She knew Juan, though. This was a moderate irritation at best for them. “What are you worried about? Getting out of here should be child’s play by now.”
“Uh huh, sure, Senka. But what’s he doing here?” they asked, pointing at Lucas, not bothering to hide their irritation.
This was the second time Lucas got an invitation from Senka, only to get swept up in some shenanigans. “She asked if I was busy. I wasn’t.”
“You two really should spend more time together.”
“Us two. Really.”
“You always say you’re so busy.”
“I am busy!” they snapped at her. “And if this is about me and him, what’s he doing here?!” he asked, pointing at yet another elf trapped in the cell with them.
“I didn’t do anything!” Jerran insisted with more bark than Juan had certainly ever heard from him.
“Your crime is the worst of all,” Senka sighed, clicking her tongue.
“You and I kill people for money,” Juan hissed, “What could he possibly do?”
Senka stood and leaned over to their ear. As she whispered Jerran’s horrible secret, Juan was visibly gagging.
“Oh… Honey, they’re gonna put you away for good.” The words rolled out as if Juan was trying to scrape the memory off his tongue.
“Right?! We all goin' to prison!” Senka hooted, throwing both fists into the air.
“Prison?!” Jerran choked.
“Ignore her, she’s always like this,” Juan sighed. “Besides, it’s nice this time of year.”
“And you’re okay with this?” he asked, glaring at Lucas.
“I didn’t have other plans tonight.”
“I’m not going to prison.”
“Don’t be so dramatic–” Juan started before Jerran moved past them. “What’s the plan, Warden?”
Jerran produced a set of lockpicks and started on the cell door.
“Dinner and show,” observed Senka, approvingly.
“This is neither of those things. Come to think of it, I’m starving. Couldn’t we just grab a bite to eat instead of this recreational hostage experience?”
“And give you a chance to back out? Here I thought we could spend some quality time together because it’s boring as shit here right now!”
“Also it’s funnier.”
“It is funnier,” she insisted, grinning. As she heard the door creak open, she looked over at Jerran, “And he did it!”
“I could have done that,” Lucas sighed from where they were still perched on the bench, arms folded.
He took a step out and closed the door again, glaring at the three of them.
“Awww.”
“You invited him.”
“He’s a good time.”
“Is he?” Juan asked, scowling.
“Why don’t we give your boy a crack at it?”
Lucas shrugged them both off. “I’m good. I’ll leave when you two do.”
“No fun. Well, show them how it’s done.”
“You going to pay for the door?”
“No.”
“Now who’s no fun,” Juan huffed and went to the door, pulling a lockpick from their belt and popping the lock with ease.
“You could have done that the entire time?” Jerran asked, sighed.
“So could you.”
“Now now, children, let’s get some dinner.”
Juan shrugged and fell into step behind Senka, “You heard her, Lucas.”
Lucas, quickly getting used to the pace of the city, shrugged in kind and stood up to follow.
“Are you serious?” Jerran was exasperated.
“More serious than prison,” Juan said with a nod, tapping a fist against his shoulder, “Welcome to Treviso.”
@teamtakagi wanted a platonic smooch with Senka and Jerran.
Hope Jerran likes to kiss knuckles... and not in the gallant way.
Ao3 Link if you prefer to read it there: Sleep Tight.
Story under the cut.
Socks.
So many damned socks; wool, linen, silk; all steeped and dyed in some smug variation of blue.
Senka curled her lip at the obscene spread of fabric littering the counter and sighed. Some would serve their intended purpose, no doubt. The finer ones, however? Those would meet ends no respectable tailor would ever acknowledge.
Ah well. Their destiny was sealed. If Fate was a cruel mistress, well, Senka was nothing if not accommodating.
She set a small pouch of coins on the counter, murmured something approximating thanks, and swept the offending items into her leather satchel. This time, she’d planned. No way in hell was she paying another merchant for a bag stitched together with prayers and bad decisions.
A brief stop at Café Pietra followed. Sen emerged moments later with her satchel heavier, her purse lighter, and the lingering taste of bitter espresso on her tongue.
Climbing a nearby trellis, she fixed her blue eyes on the rooftop ahead and vaulted onto the slanted stone without breaking stride. One of Treviso’s few outdoor bars clung to the waterfront just beyond. Moonlight spilled over the canals below, silvering the water like an invitation or a warning. The assassin spared it no thought.
Every step was instinct. Muscle memory honed by years of running these same rooftops, bleeding on these same stones. She knew each foothold as intimately as if she’d laid the stones herself, never hesitating, never faltering.
The night air cooled her flushed cheeks as she dropped back to street level in near silence. Below, raucous laughter and raised voices spilled into the dark, an old, familiar comfort.
From the shadowed recess of a nearby alcove, Senka caught sight of a familiar profile and smirked.
Always in blue. Their particular shade stood out among Trevisans the way a red flower would in a field of white. If nothing else, Wardens were unapologetically proud of their allegiances.
Leaning back against the cool stone, she settled in to observe the small gathering. Tankard after tankard of ale disappeared, and it quickly became obvious the little contingent was celebrating something. Then again, when every day was lived with a keen awareness of how brief life truly was, simply waking up on this side of the dirt was reason enough.
Waiting for the right moment, Sen slipped a dagger from her belt and flipped it end over end, lazily, her gaze never leaving the bar. Minutes blurred into something longer, an hour, perhaps more, until the dull, unmistakable sound of fist meeting flesh cut through the murmur of conversation.
Her blue eyes snapped up in time to see Jerran’s punch land squarely on an unsuspecting Crow’s nose.
Oh. Hell.
Adjusting the satchel on her back, Senka shook her head and turned toward the nearest climbable surface. There was only one way this was going to end. No need to intervene.
Groans drifted from several cells, and the place stank of spilled drink and sour breath; those sleeping it off packed too tightly into the narrow space. Senka glided down the corridor, passing one holding cell after another, until the soft, familiar scrape of lockpicks fumbling in a mechanism reached her ears.
“Well, well,” she drawled. “Nice to see you still keep that lockpick set on you.”
Jerran looked up, hair fallen into his face as he squinted through the bars.
“Senka?”
“Maybe,” she said lightly. “How many of me are you seeing?”
He huffed, brown eyes blinking owlishly. “Two… no, wait. Two and a half.”
Sen smirked, shaking her head as he continued to fumble with the lock. “Close enough, I suppose.”
One of the picks slipped from his unsteady fingers and clattered to the stone at her feet. She lifted a brow, barely stifling a laugh as she bent to retrieve it. Straightening, she held it up between her fingers and peered at him through the bars.
“Allow me.”
Jerran sighed, shoulders slumping. “Why do you always…”
“Interject?” she cut in smoothly. “Step in at exactly the right moment? Beat you to the chase? Help you out? Be amazing?”
He groaned and staggered back a step as the lock clicked open, dragging a hand through his hair.
“I hate you.”
“No, you don’t.” She flashed him a grin. “Now come on. Let’s get out of here. The guards are only so accommodating…”
She stepped aside, gesturing down the hall.
“… even when it’s someone as charming as yours truly.”
“You know what,” he snapped, glaring at the elven assassin, “I don’t think I will. Lemme stay right here. I’m fine.”
His stubborn declaration was immediately punctuated by him stumbling into the cell bars, his head coming dangerously close to meeting unforgiving iron.
Senka stopped short, a grin tugging at her lips as she watched him grab a bar to steady himself.
“Oh? Really? You’re good here with these drunks?” She glanced pointedly down the row of cells. “All of them snoring and farting? No accounting for taste, I suppose.”
She leaned in slightly. “Still, I don’t think Eleanor would appreciate finding out you landed your ass in a Treviso jail and none of your Crow contacts bothered to liberate you. And frankly, I really don’t want to deal with her storming into the Diamond pissed off and looking for blood.”
“She’s my lady,” he slurred. “Would never do somefin’ like tha’.”
“Right. Sure.” Senka gestured down the hall. “Now come on, before we overstay our welcome.”
Jerran shook his head, warm brown waves flying in every direction, a comical sight, if Senka weren’t on a time constraint.
“No. I’m stayin’… hic!” He squinted at her satchel. “‘S in the bag? Got snacks? I’m hunnnngggrryyy…”
Senka tilted her head, then flicked a glance down the corridor, weighing her options.
“Jerran, my obstinate friend,” she said evenly, “this is the last time I’m asking nicely. Would you please come along? Freedom awaits. Possibly even a clean bed.”
Backing away, he plopped down on the cell’s only fixture, a decidedly uncomfortable-looking metal bench, and crossed his arms over his chest. His eyes glazed as he peered up at her in defiant triumph.
Senka didn’t hesitate.
She stepped forward and clocked him clean across the jaw.
His head snapped back, consciousness fleeing instantly as he slumped against the wall. Knowing she had a narrow window before the idiot woke up, she moved fast, planting a boot on his, grabbing both wrists, and hauling him up and over her shoulder.
“Fuckin’ hardheaded drunks,” she muttered as she carried him out.
The guard at the door chuckled as he swung it open. “See you soon, Senka.”
She shot him a withering look as she slipped into the night, sincerely hoping she wouldn’t have to pick Jerran’s room lock one-handed while hauling his dead weight along for the ride.
As Senka bent down, Jerran slid off her shoulder and slumped against the door while she shifted her satchel and flicked out her picks.
It took only a few seconds, but the groan at her feet dragged a weary sigh from the depths of her soul. She nudged the door open with her foot, glanced inside, then crouched beside him.
“Jerr. Can you hear me?”
Brown eyes fluttered open. “Yeah,” he muttered. “But do you have to yell?”
Her brow furrowed as a smirk tugged at her mouth. “I'm not yelling," she chuckled. "We’re back in your room. Think you can get up?”
He mumbled something under his breath, something that sounded suspiciously like bossy, as he struggled to his feet. Senka moved fast, ducking under his arm and bracing his weight.
“I don’t…” he started, glaring down at her.
“Yes,” she cut in. “You do need help. Stow the attitude and let’s get you into bed.”
Grunting, her arm firm around his waist, she guided him across the room. The moment his back hit the mattress, he sighed in pure contentment. Senka straightened, watching with faint amusement as he wriggled back and curled onto his side.
“You’re going to regret this in the morning, Jerran.”
It wasn’t judgment. Just a fact.
She shrugged off her satchel and set it on the small table nearby.
“Mmmhmm. ’S okay,” he slurred. “Just celebratin’. Good times an’ all that.”
“Right.”
She dug into the leather pouch at her belt and pulled out a small vial of concentrated healing draught; payment, she decided, for the less-than-gentle punch earlier. Setting it beside the satchel, she glanced back at the bed and shook her head.
“Get some rest. Left a healing potion here for the morning. You’ll need it.”
“Healin’. Uh-huh.” He squinted blearily. “Where’s the blanket?! Senka! You stole it!”
She barked out a laugh, grabbed the blanket from the foot of the bed, and tossed it over him. “Why would I steal your blanket?”
“'Cause you're a Crow and you all do that type of thing."
“First, brilliant observation. I am, in fact, a Crow. I'll make sure to get you a cookie when you sober up. Second, I do not steal. And if I did, blankets wouldn’t rank very high.”
As the blanket settled over him, he snorted. “Ah. So it was hidin’ then.”
“Yes,” she said dryly. “Blanket 101, they tend to hide when frightened by drunk Wardens.”
He lifted his head as if to growl, then let it flop back down instead.
“Terrifyin’,” she muttered. “I’ll see myself out. No need for formalities.”
“Wait! Sen!” He stirred again. “You gotta do the thing.”
She froze halfway to the door and glanced back over her shoulder. “The thing? What in the hell is the thing?”
“You know. What Eleanor does.”
Her blue eyes widened, and she pivoted for the door. “Nope! No way in hell! I am not going to…”
“What? No!” He caught the horror in her voice and hurried on. “Not that. Gotta tell me night an’ kiss me.”
“Fuck no.”
“Aww, come on,” he whined, starting to swing his legs over the side of the bed.
Shit.
If he wandered off, he’d get hurt. Or fall into the Bay. Or drown. And somehow, it would be her fault.
“If I tuck you in,” she said tightly, “will you stay in bed? Because if not, I’m not above feeding you a sleeping draught. You can be mad about it later.”
Jerran nodded immediately, peeking over the edge of the blanket. "Yep! I'll stay put."
The disdain on Senka’s face was rather theatrical, but when preventing an accidental death, she had to make exceptions. Her footsteps muffled by the rug, she stopped beside the bed and glared down at him.
She brushed chestnut waves back from his forehead and bent to press an annoyed kiss to his temple. “If you tell anyone this happened, I will personally inform them I knocked you the hell out and carried you here. Got it?”
She straightened and headed for the door as he laughed softly and rolled away, burrowing under the blanket.
“Night, Sen. Lock the door, yeah? Ain’t tryin’ to get jumped in my sleep.”
She parroted his words in a mocking drawl. “Lock the door… pfft. Whatever.”
Already halfway out, she added over her shoulder, “Oh, and I left you a gift for helping me find Arojan a few weeks back. It’s in that satchel. Word to the wise: don’t tell me what you end up using them for. I’m choosing to believe they’re for your feet. Night, kid.”
She closed the door behind her, checked the lock twice, and slipped back into the streets of Treviso.
They definitely have a sibling vibe going. The older tired brother and the younger brother trying to annoy him. But hey- this is a change! This time fists were not aimed at each other like our usual characters!
And sorry for this taking so long! I’ve been in a writers block but soon will be getting to everyone who submitted these!
Wardens, plenty of them merit knew, none of them merit would really socialize with but Jerran was decent enough when they had a job. And one he could tolerate, though they had their moments.
“Jerran, nearly cleared out this area. Once we are done we should report back to camp.” Merit rubbed his shoulder from fighting the dark spawn. He looked around sighing.
Jerran approached Merit, shrugging, “Sure, I think there are still a few more boils but quick fix.”
Merit closed his eyes for a moment and shook his head, “Alright, then. Let’s get them out of the way.”
“You’re more irritable today, more than usual anyways.”
“I didn't smoke this morning.”
“I can’t help you there.”
“Didn’t ask for you to help.”
“Again. Irritable.”
“And you’re getting on my nerves. You want to fight this blight by yourself?” Merit raised his brow,
“I could and you know it.” Jerran grinned
They both stopped in their tracks feeling a chill go down them both. A silence past between them, both of them backing into each other with their hands going to their weapons.
“More darkspawn?”
“Feels bigger, not a horde. But not weak.”
Before they could both say it, the creature appeared before the, bursting through the area and a loud cream following.
“Ogre!” They both yelled out, Jerran throwing their shield in its direction to stop it from stampeding them.
Merit took the chance to aim his bow and shoot for its eyes, another yell coming from the creature making it stumble back.
Jerran shouted, “Aim for the Heels!”
“Will that actually work on these guys?!” Merit yelled back pulling out another arrow to launch
“Do you have a better plan?"
“I always have a better plan. Just. Not Today.” With that merit had aimed his bow for the heels as Jerran ran across grabbing the ogres attention. His arrow went flying into the creatures heel, then another into the other causing it to fall back. Jerran took the opportunity to finish the ogre off.
“Still grumpy?” Jerran raised a brow at Merit
“Still cocky?” Merit sighed, “Let’s get back to camp.”

8. A Platonic Kiss with Aria and Jerran Thorne (@teamtakagi)
I hope this does Jerran justice and thank you for allowing me to borrow him for a moment 🙏
An outing was something they needed or at least something Aria believed Jerran needed. She dragged the grey warden to one of her favorite taverns in Treviso. One that she could slip in unnoticed but had been there so often that the barkeeps knew her but would turn the other way when needed–they did for any crow.
“A bar? Now we're talking.” Jerran smiled as they entered “I don't have to be worried about a contract out on me, right?”
Aria let out a laugh as she walked through the crowded tavern passing by groups of people already drunk off their asses and some passed out “with me? No.” she waltzed up to the bar, the keep flashing her a small smile.
“Ah, good to see You miss.” He glanced over at the taller elf standing just off to the side of her, his eyebrows raising “and a friend?”
“Yes, give us some of your hardest liquor.” She pulled out a couple of gold and placed it on the bar. The keep gingerly took it before producing two cups and pulling out a bottle that had a liquid of a dark brown complexion. She watched as he poured some into both cups and pushed them forward. “Thank you, Senor.”
“How often do you come here?” Jerran picked up his cup and stared down at the contents of it, nothing could be worse than the arch demon blood he had to drink.
“Recently? Not very often. Before, I would come down at least once a week.” She lifted her cup up towards him “cheers to us and not dying yet.” They clicked their cups before Aria took a swig of her drink. The warm liquid slipped into her mouth, tasting nothing but pure alcohol. She watched Jerran, his eyes starting to water as he grimaced and swallowed down the hard liquor. A chuckle escaped from Aria, not one she meant to let out, but it did all the same.
“Andraste tits.” he cursed out, holding his cup out. He let out a series of coughs. “Is it poisoned? That would be an interesting way to go out.” He gave her a forced smile as another cough escaped him.
“If it was poison, I would know.” She lifted the cup to her lips, her eyes scanning the tavern. From watching Jerran he needed a moment to relax, a small respite away from what does he call them Ghili’nug and Elder'rug? The names always seemed to switch up with him but he never would say their names, Aria could respect the commitment to come up with new names every time.
The tavern was as lively as it could possibly be on a Thursday Evening especially with the Antam occupation. Her eyes caught Sight of a group of girls, all around the same age and attractive. From even a second of watching them she knew they were close friends and then she saw one of the girl’s eyes glance to Jerran where it stayed before she moved away. Bingo. Now she just would have to push Jerran to use those lessons in charm.
An idea shot through her head. “How about a bet?” She turned to him; his face was still red from the coughing fit. She placed down her cup on the bar.
“A bet?” A smile grew on his face. “What kind of bet? Who can drink the fastest?”
“No no.” She shook her head and leaned Forward, her face getting closer to his “a simple one. who can get a kiss from one of those girls.” nudging her head she watched Jerran's gaze.
“The ones in the group?” she nodded her head in response “what sort of kiss? I don't think you mean full sucking faces… you don't mean sucking faces, do you?”
Aria chuckled as she placed her hand on his shoulder “My friend. Just a simple kiss. Lips meeting lips. Like so.” She pulled him in and brought her lips to his, placing a gentle kiss before she backed away “See simple, no more no less.” her hand reached for her cup as she prepared to take another sip.
Jerran’s eyes were wide as he watched her take a drink. “How do you make it seem so easy?”
A smile spread on her lips “Well, I have kissed many people. Friends and lovers alike. You must have no emotion behind it. It’s not special unless you make it so.” she shrugged “It’s just flesh meeting flesh. So, let’s say twenty gold for whoever can kiss one of them first? I’ll even give you a head start to woo them.”
His eyes trailed back over to the group of girls “Deal. You better have that gold ready.” He took a quick swig of his drink, trying his best to hide his grimace and swallow. This time he did not explode into a coughing fit, he was learning which was a good sign to Aria. His cup hit the counter with a clunk before he stood up and strolled over to the table of girls.
Now Aria just had to sit and wait, praying to the maker that no snarky comments slithered out of any of their mouths because as good as she tried to teach him some things couldn’t be helped.
