A slab of light burst from the window onto the cool floor as he drew the curtains to the sides. And then again when he did the same to the adjacent window. For the past four days he’s had them closed, allowing only the strongest of rays to peep in when a soft breeze drifts by.

Sea foam blue. It amazed him how he’d forgotten the color of his walls. His eyes panning the room, the numerous framed photographs that hung on the wall seemed more like sequins on a dainty gown as the glass reflected the morning light. Everything was bright, everything lucid—even the sea foam blue walls—so much so now that he looked back and remembered that darkness had been its color.

Disheveled bed sheet. Deflated pillows. His favorite blanket of faded tangerine sprawled on the bed with one of its corners dipping low from the side of the bed, almost touching the floor, all its crispness siphoned out by the incessant rains. He picked the pillows up one by one and stacked them on the chair in front of his nearby desk. Then, he picked the blanket up and waived it in the air, like he was in one of those fabric conditioner commercials.  At once, minute particles of white went wild into the air.
