surprises spoiled.
I have a tendency to unintentionally spoil surprises for myself, mainly Christmas gifts.
One year, my parents hid a stereo system around the corner from the top of the stairs. I had forgotten something upstairs, ran up, and saw it. Another year, my parents had gotten me a guitar and hid it under the table. Me being a kid and thus resorting to the floor to play, saw the guitar.
I was trying to Google something on my boyfriend’s phone in the car and the website it was on when I opened the web browser was for a print by this artist I really like, whose paintings we had seen at a museum a few months back. I’m pretty sure that will be part of my Christmas gift this year.
A week ago, I went camping for the first time. (We got to see the Orion Nebula through binoculars.)
This morning, I saw my IMDB page for the first time. (I helped out with my cousins’ film doing behind the scenes photography.)
Tomorrow night, my boyfriend is taking me to Chicago for my birthday trip.
Sounds great, right?
Meanwhile, I’m in the biggest fight I’ve ever had with my parents.
I’m broke af and spending money I don’t have.
I’m still jobless.
After dinner, we lounged with homemade cocktails in hand while watching the sunset. Afterwards, we slow danced out in the backyard, poolside and under the night sky. There were soft white lights strung across the patio and oldies like Etta James playing in the background.
Is this real life? These are the things I dream of.
