The 24mm version is Shimanos ultralight race option and is purpose-built for efficiency when climbing and all- around stellar lightweight performance sure to please the weight weenies in the crowd. The 35mm is a practical middle ground between the 24mm and 50mm and takes on some of the best characteristics of each. Offering better aerodynamics than the 24mm, yet less weight than the 50mm, the 35mm is a great choice for rides that demand agility in the climbs and aero power in the descents and straightaways. Speed junkies should look to the 50mm to get their fix of blazing aero goodness. The 50mms deep aero profile is built for speed and helps you cut through the pack with surgical precision. Shimanos lust-worthy 9000 series hubs boast a buttery smooth spin quality based on Shimanos cup and cone design. The cup and cone ball-bearing design is easy to maintain and offers some the best road hub performance around. Both the C35 and C50 version get the OptiBal treatment, while the C24 remains radial laced. OptiBal features two spokes on the right side for every one spoke on the left. 21 spokes (14 drive side, 7 non-drive) , work to even out tension between the left and right side of the rear wheel. On traditional road wheels, spoke tension on the non-drive side is significantly lower than the drive side and much tension is needed on the drive side to keep the wheel balanced. This formula can lead to spoke breakage on the non-drive side. OptiBal seeks to correct this imbalance and produces a better ride feel, better wheel tension, and optimal stiffness. Last, but definitely not least is the D2 rim. Shimano widened the rim to 23mm and deepened the tire bed on this most recent version of the Dura Ace 9000 wheel.
