When there was still hope to make others' lives better. When they had the same beliefs and shared a dream. "You should come up with me, we're partners" vs "Viktor, you're my partner!".

Jayce encouraging his partner to stand by his side and show the world their accomplishments. Jayce distracted by high society and left his partner behind without realizing it, behind a mug with his own face on it.

Viktor not even lifting his head to look at him. Viktor after Jayce didn't keep the promise he made to him. After not letting him die. Viktor who, despite being wrapped in Jayce's arms, feels nothing, not even cold, just a a charge, a potential of what once was.

Viktor knew their paths diverged long ago while Jayce just realized it. Jayce, who now is aware of what losing Viktor feels like, versus Viktor, who felt he lost Jayce time before that.

The darkness versus the light of these two scenes, one warmer and the other colder. The truth is out: Jayce used the Hexcore and Viktor's actions killed Sky.

At the top, they're both wearing their gala and lab clothes, even then emphasizing their social difference. At the bottom, neither of them is wearing the upper garment. It's no longer about science or politics, but about themselves as partners, friends.

In the first scene, Jayce gave in to pressure and made a decision on his own that he should have consulted with Viktor first. In the second scene, Jayce is going to resign from the council that pushed him away from Viktor. He understands now, nothing is more important than being with him in the lab, their special shared place.

In both scenes, Jayce's optimism stands out in convincing Viktor that they should fullfil their dream together. In the first scene, Viktor almost has an expression of admiration; he trusts Jayce and thinks he will do the right thing, what they had previously agreed. In the second scene, Viktor has lost faith in Jayce and decides that he can do it on his own; he will help the rest of humanity and make the city a better place. "I must say goodbye to this place now. To you.".
