The hustle and bustle of Silvermoon went on as it did every day. The bright commons areas were filled with traders, buyers and just about everything in between. Severian wasnât any different as he leaned back against a sign post, the bottom of his boot scraping down the smoothed wood. He crossed his arms and let his head fall back against the post as he non-chalantly scanned the crowd. He was expecting someone. A day before he received a missive from Jaymeson telling him to meet up with a business representative. Apparently there was a shipment of ammo coming in and Jay couldnât be there in person to receive it. The law of QuelâThalas had its eye on Jayâs operation for...unseemly practices and since he hadnât been too publicly connected with Jay, Sev was sent in his stead. âThe widow is here in danger.â Sevâs ears perked at the voice that suddenly appeared behind him. He didnât turn around to see a face, but he didnât need to. This code was to signal that the deal had gone south. His eyes flew to the confined corridors that led to the woods of Eversong. Armed soldiers began to pour towards the exit, all shifting through the crowds and asking people for their papers. âS-...Salesmen agree to be kind.â The rogue parroted the phrase as his heart began to speed up. He knew that Jay had been under extreme scrutiny, but this...Swords, shields and manacles...this was too much. The carrier of the voice had long disappeared and Sev slowly pushed himself up from his post and tried to join the flow of the exiting crowds. He used a particularly shady area to slip even further from view. Using his newfound invisibility, he went against the flowâŚ.and toward danger. He had to make it to Eversong so that he could inform Jay of the betrayal at hand. Perhaps he already knew. There was a small opening between two guards and Sev had his eyes set on it. That was his ticket to freedom. Slowly but surely he slunk towards the exit, using every bit of negative space to his advantage. He was only mere meters away from the cityâs gates before that gap was filled. His eyes rested upon the captain of the guard, a tall and statuesque man that filled every stereotype that one could have of such a position. Sevâs heart dropped out of his chest, rolled over the pavement and landed at the Captainâs feet. His chances of escape seemed to drop dramatically as the Captain pointed his finger out and shouted orders to his company. âGet out there boys. Search every nook and cranny. This is someone we canât afford to let get away.â The adonis of a man took two steps forward, hands folded behind his shimmering back. His boots were inches away from Sevâs face and the Captain made a face as he turned his nose up, but his eyes fell to the stealthed rogue at his feet. âThis is the last time Severian. I donât care how pretty your ass is, this is the last time that I let this sort of thing slide. Get out of here.â He didnât have to be told twice. The rogue slid right around the Captain of the Guard, not without one last pat to the his leathered rear. Something could be said for having friendly relations with your local Captain of the guard.
