Wonderful melancholic music “Ashokan Farewell” by Jay Ungar
I don’t have a beautiful cover, but the CD contains fine music.
Jay Ungar plays the violin as the fiddlers did in simpler times. (The Civil War photo gives it away. Ken Burns relied on Jay Ungar for the soundtrack of his PBS series on the Civil War.)
Personally, I have zero interest in folk music, but I do listen to Ungar. That’s how good he is!
And Thomas Hampson, a baritone with the proper classical training, has the right voice to accompany the fiddlers.
As for Ungar’s composition “Ashokan Farewell”, it is an absolute masterpiece. If you don’t know it, you need to visit YouTube this minute...
