"Play White Elephant with us," they said. "It'll be fun," they said. Honestly, you should've known better considering who was involved. Since when has GOT7 done anything with an ounce of control? The second the last person invited to BamBam's place walked through the door, drinks were passed out and chaos ensued. You ended up sitting cross-legged in a circle with the boys, clutching your carefully wrapped package—a vintage record player you found at a flea market—hoping it wouldn't be the most memorable gift for all the wrong reasons. It wasn't impossible to find vinyl records…right? You added it to the pile while the guys fought over snacks and refills.

you were pacing around the room like crazy, hand on your chin as you stared at the ground. you were actually going insane.

“y/n, relax” jinyoung mumbled and you turned to look at him, only to see all six boys looking at you with so much concern in their eyes.

“i can’t” you whined. “what if he doesn’t like it?” you asked, hands flying everywhere around you out of frustration.

jinyoung rolled his eyes and elbowed jackson, signaling for him to continue the conversation.

“he will like it. jaebeom likes everything that includes you” he reassured. “plus, you did amazing. look around, the place is beautiful and you got him something that he’s been wanting for a very long time”

you did as told and looked around the room that you’ve been standing in. you have to agree, your living room does look amazing with all the balloons and confetti. the table was full of jaebeom’s favourite food that you’ve made yourself.

the birthday boy himself is on his way home, having no clue what is waiting for him, thinking that you’re not home since you told him beforehand that you’ll be working until late.

the boys also helped you prepare but most importantly, they came which will be a huge surprise for jaebeom since he haven’t seen them in a while, especially jackson, who has been in china for most of the time.

you were content, knowing that your boyfriend is surrounded by good people who genuinely love him and even though you are panicking right now, deep down you know that no matter how this is going to turn out, he will be happy.

your eyes widened when you heard the key jiggling on the other side of the door. you quickly hurried everyone to go in their spots and turned off the lights, threatening the people around you to stay quiet.

jaebeom walked in, humming a familiar song and walked into the living room. it took him a few seconds to find the light switch and when he turned on the light, all of you started screaming “surprise” while yugyeom and bambam threw confetti at jaebeom.

he was stunned, eyes wide, mouth open with a peace of confetti stuck to his lip. his eyes locked with yours and then the biggest grin spread on his face.

“baby” he whispered and immediately pulled you into a hug.

Your heart was pounding as Jaebeom got home from the studio, having avoided your phone for most of the afternoon. His expression gave nothing away as he sat down on the sofa beside you, resting his hand against the top of your leg.

“It’s been an interesting few hours,” he whispered with a light chuckle, “but luckily it seems as if things are going down really well.”

Your eyes looked suspiciously back at him, left slightly uncertain because of the smile that was on his face, the smile that usually seemed to spell out mischief or trouble.

After the two of you found your relationship revealed, with photos shared of the two of you walking down by the river a couple of days ago, you were terrified. The last thing that you wanted was for a bump in the road when things had been going so well between the two of you.

“What are people saying?” You asked Jaebeom, wanting to hear for yourself what had been talked about with the two of you, “have you been reading some whilst at work?”

Jaebeom nodded as he pulled his phone out from the pocket of his jacket. He couldn’t help himself but look, desperately wanting to see how positive things were so that he could come home and reassure you especially.

“It seems that people are big fans of you,” Jaebeom explained to you, “but then it’s easy to see why so many people like you.”

“Are you being serious or just trying to sweettalk me again?”

His eyebrows raised innocently back at you as Jaebeom loaded the first of the articles that had been released. After scrolling all the way through to the bottom where fans could leave some comments, he passed his phone to you.

It took a moment for you to build up the courage to look down and start reading through, looking to Jaebeom who had a smile on his face for the push that you needed to read them.

“They all seem so lovely,” Jaebeom remarked as you began to scroll through, on edge as you waited for the negativity to come. The first few comments felt like a dream, but the more you scrolled, the more consistent the positivity became.

As you read more, your smile grew too, finally realising that Jaebeom was being honest with you. His eyes were on you as you looked through, relieved to see your smile too as you read on.

“Apparently all of the articles have the same comments, the company checked every single one.”

Your eyes flickered in Jaebeom’s direction, trying to make sure that you weren’t dreaming. It felt too good to be true, especially after you’d read so many bad articles on relationships in the industry.

“Are you sure that your company hasn’t just gone through and reported all the bad comments?”

A chuckle came from Jaebeom as still you couldn’t help but fret, assuring you that they had touched nothing. It was all real, and true, the fans were surprisingly accepting of you.

All of the sleepless nights that you’d had worrying about how things would be the day your relationship got revealed all felt like they’d been for nothing, a waste of your time.

“Do you mind just pinching me?” You asked Jaebeom.

“I’m not pinching you; you already know that you’re not dreaming.”

He knew exactly what you wanted, and there was no way that he was going to give it to you. He wanted for you to keep reading, to keep feeling the love from his fans mostly.

Even as Jaebeom moved onto another article, your heart was full. Positive comment after another came, with several comments complimenting you scattered in between.

“They all seem to think I’m punching.”

“Your fans have good eyes,” you joked back at Jaebeom as he summed up most of the comments, “you should listen to them.”

As you continued to tease him, Jaebeom couldn’t help but start attacking your sides to remind you not to let things get to you too much. He knew you were only messing with him, but he still wanted to remain the apple in his fans’ eyes and not give that spot up to you too quickly after getting yourselves revealed.

“You should be glad they like me.”

Jaebeom immediately nodded back at you after letting you go, “I am glad, even if it is a kick in the teeth for my ego to be told that I’ve pulled better than anyone thought I would.”

“It’s not my fault that I’m just too pretty for you.”

Jaebeom lifted his hands up to threaten to tickle you again, but you quickly pushed him away. You closed your mouth and stayed quiet, knowing that you weren’t prepared for another tickle attack.

Things had gone better than either of you had ever expected they would, blown away by how supportive everyone was of you. It was something the two of you had worried about so many times, and now you had no need.

“I feel like I should thank them for being so nice or something,” you told Jaebeom as he closed his phone, “or do you think that comes across too keen?”

His head shook in reply to your question, “my fans will probably be quite happy to hear from you, it sounds like they really want to get to know you. Maybe we could release a video or a statement through the company.”

You were new to it all and didn’t have a clue as to how to act, but luckily for you, Jaebeom had all the answers. Although things would be more authoritative and more protected now, you were willing to do it for Jaebeom.

“I just want to say thank you,” you told him, not wanting to overcomplicate things.

“If that’s what you want to do, then let’s see if we can release a video, give the fans a chance to hear your voice,” Jaebeom suggested. “The more they see us together and smiling, the more likely everyone is to support us.”

Of course, you knew not everyone would be a fan of the two of you, but you were keen to do whatever you could to get them on side. As long as they kept supporting Jaebeom, that was all that mattered, but having them support you was definitely a bonus too.

As calm as he acted beside you, Jaebeom was beyond relieved too. He didn’t want you to be scared or panicked, but instead you felt relaxed and overwhelmed by the kindness.

“I’m not just saying it because it’s my relationship, but I’ve honestly never seen an idol reveal their relationship and have so many people be nice to them.”

“What do you think we’ve done to make people be so nice to us?”

Jaebeom shrugged back at you, “maybe the fact that we’re normal. The photos that got shared just showed the two of us doing normal couple things.”

“Just that when we do normal couple things, we have cameras now following us everywhere we go,” you joked in reply.

“It’ll get easier,” Jaebeom assured you, “and if they don’t leave us alone, you’ll be surprised how intimidating the company can be to get them to listen to what we want.”

Your eyes went wide as he spoke, “I think I’ve underestimated the power you have.”

“I’m not just a pretty face,” Jaebeom teased, “I can be pretty demanding when I want to be too.”

“How come I’ve never seen this side of you?”

“One day you just might.”

The ballroom was decorated in extreme detail. The flowers were freshly picked. Every string of garland was hand-crafted with the finest materials. The food was prepared by the kingdom’s most talented chefs. The kingdom’s most famous orchestra played with flourish upon a stage.

All for King Jaebeom’s coronation.

There was a stunning mix of colors that swirled about the dance floor in the form of ball gowns. Every hue imaginable and yet just one stood out to him. Stole his breath and attention with one glance.

His favorite dress was green.

Maybe it was the way it clung to your curves whenever you stood up to accept a dance. Or maybe it was the way it floated around you as you twirled about. Jaebeom had seen you in lots of dresses, all different. But this one was his favorite, hands down. You looked like a fairy-tale princess. Ethereal and elegant. The second the song began to fade, he found himself rising from his chair. He cut through the crowd, ignoring those who politely bowed to him. His eyes were on you. The way your eyes sparkled as you danced with yet another man who’d been brave enough to ask.

Jaebeom tapped the gentleman’s shoulder and cleared his throat. The man turned, nearly breaking his neck as he did a double take. “Y-your Majesty!”

Jaebeom smiled. “Hello.” He turned to you. “May I cut in?”

“Of course!” He bowed slightly and backed away from you.

Jaebeom quickly took his place, gently taking your hand as he placed one of his on your waist. He was aware he should’ve asked first, but knew he would’ve kept asking until you caved. He took a step closer. “You look stunning tonight.”

“Thank you, Your Majesty.” You were nervous. He wished he knew you well enough so you’d relax. “As do you.”

The world seemed to fall away as you both continued to sway back and forth. The conversation was polite chit chat that dissolved into a comfortable silence as the orchestra transitioned to a new piece. Jaebeom couldn’t recall the last time he’d been this calm and content with someone. It was then that he knew his search was over. He’d finally found his queen.

“What’s your name?” He asked softly, eyes glued to your lips.

“_____.” Your voice was music to his ears, soothing like a lullaby.

“Mmm, _____.” He savored the way his lips formed each syllable. “Would you like to have dinner with me tomorrow?”

You woke up in the middle of the night, drenched in sweat. The cackling still rang in your ears. You could still feel the pressure of a hand on your throat. Your body trembled as your heart beat wildly. Goosebumps had broken out all over your arms. What the hell. You'd never watch another movie with Yugyeom before bed.

Ever.

You rolled over onto your side, curled up into a ball, and tried to make the images go away. Razor sharp teeth. Fucking clown makeup. You were terrified of clowns for a reason. The clock on the nightstand felt like it was mocking you. 4:18. It was too early to get up, so you gave up on the idea of just getting a bowl of cereal and watching cartoons. You didn’t want to risk waking the guys. Tossing and turning for nearly thirty minutes, it became clear that you weren't going to settle down and go back to sleep.

Fine.

You slipped out of bed, bare feet on the cold floor. You tucked your pillow under your arm and headed out into the hallway. You had four options. Well, no. Three. Jinyoung wouldn't take kindly to you invading his space. You damn sure weren't going to give Yugyeom the satisfaction of knowing the movie did scare you. So, just two options. Mark's bedroom door was closed. You turned to your left.

But Jaebeom's door wasn't.

You peeked into his room and saw him snuggled under the comforter, mouth open slightly. He looked so peaceful that you nearly turned around. You stepped inside of the dimly lit room, using the light of his laptop to step carefully over his shoes. Once you got to the side of the bed, you leaned over and pushed his shoulder gently.

"Jaebeom," you whispered.

"Mmm," he replied but didn't open his eyes. He did this often, and you could never tell if he was actually aware of your presence. So you kept shaking him.

"Jaebeom," you said a little louder, shaking him a little harder.

His eyes opened just enough for you to see that he was looking at you. "Yeah?"

You bit your bottom lip and looked down at his outstretched hand. "I-I can't sleep."

"Hm?"

You sighed softly and said, "I had a nightmare. I tried to go back to sleep but..."

"But you're scared?"

You nodded, unable to look him in the eyes.

His hand caught your wrist and tugged you down onto the bed. "I told you not to let Yugyeom get to you." He mumbled, voice deep with sleep, as he moved the comforter to cover you. "It's okay to tell him no. He'll get over it and move on to teasing someone else." Once you were properly covered, he pulled the extra pillow down over his arm and motioned for you to put your head on it. "Next time, say no. Okay?"

His other arm wrapped around your middle and pulled you close to him. With his chest on your back, you could feel the lazy rhythm of his heart beating. His body was warm. He smelled good, a combination of toothpaste and body wash. You'd have to ask what he used and hoped he wouldn't think you were weird. He squeezed you, reminding you that he wanted an answer. "Okay."

"Good girl," he whispered and pressed his lips to a spot behind your ear. "Now get some sleep. We have a packed schedule tomorrow, and you'll need to keep up." You nodded, and he chuckled, his thumb rubbing lightly over your stomach. "Can I be honest with you?"

You looked over your shoulder at him, but he had his eyes closed. He’d likely fall back to sleep soon. "Yeah."

"I like this. I don't mind you coming to me like this. So, you can come to me whenever you have trouble sleeping, okay? I don't mind."

You grinned and turned back around, resting your hand over his. You exhaled slowly, and your body released the tension. Finally, sleep began to settle over you. "Okay."
