Parenting: Due to Basil's developing mental illnesses at an early age, their parents had coddled him as a child. Perhaps a little too much for some others like. But his parents had tried to take very good care of both their children when they could. But Basil had required a lot of their attention at times.  They had learned early on not to raise their hands or their voices because Basil never reacted well to this.

Upbringing: His parents had raised their kids with decent morals, on a good day Basil was very well in his moral alignments. He could restrain himself only to a point though. Which some would often cross and then his morals would happen to go out of the window.

Infancy: When Basil was born he was not breathing, and was smaller than his twin brother.  Though much to his mother and fathers relief he the medical staff had been able to get him breathing again and took him away to get hooked up to machines that would help him breathe. Being born somewhat small the hospital had kept him for almost a week after he was born, days after his brother was allowed to go home with his parents. After that Basil grew up alongside his brother with loving parents who never let the stress of raising twin boys to get to them.  As they both had had jobs and were working hard to keep life stable the boys were often dropped off at relatives or day cares as in their early infancy. Basil would often cry the entire stint in day care. Even at times, he would get severe ear infections and fevers. These were the first signs of his mental illnesses starting to take hold.

Childhood: At three Basil had seemed to mellow out and would at a time seem to go far too silent almost out of nowhere. He seemed to always be lost in thought or even distracted at times. In preschool, this behavior had been allowed to go on without notice. His teachers just thought he was being a normal little boy. Basil would continue to get ear infections during this time and miss going to preschool.  Because he was so sick a lot of the time Basil had gotten a lot of his parents' attentions, making them worry about how sick he could get over what appeared to be nothing at all.  Once in kindergarten, Basil had been seemingly getting worse. He could not pay attention in class on most days, even when he tried hard. His teacher had always been on his case, mostly about how horrible his writing was and that they couldn't grade his work so would continue to give him failing grades.

At one point the teacher got to a point where he would stop allowing Basil to go to recess. And then, after forcing Basil to stay in class ( In an attempt to for Basil to write better and to their approval). But at some point during this time he was forcibly locked in a closet. Where he would spend the rest most of his year in kindergarten.  During this time Basil had gotten a high fever and by the end of the day toward the end of the year, Basil had gotten so hot that he fell into a coma and didn't wake up until about two weeks later. By that time it was clear that damage had been done, and the teacher was fired and arrested.  Over the next few years, Basil was diagnosed with at least one mental illness, but he was often kept stable with a heavy regiment of pills.  Basil was never comfortable with going to school after what happened to him but did so in order to not 'be a freak' that the other children would talk about as they passed his house.

Adolescence: As a teenager, Basil had become known as a 'hippie' but mostly in title alone. His habits were not all entirely just that of hippies. But he never really let that bother him.  He usually would invite himself to hang out with the other teens he went to school with and always would put on a happy go lucky sort of personality. Though on his off days he seems disconnected as if he wasn't there. His closest friends usually don't think anything of his weird off putting behavior. Thinking that he just had been too high or hadn't taken the right amount of his pills that day. Toward graduation, Basil was becoming excited about hanging out and traveling across the country.  He had been spending a lot of time preparing for the trip, making sure he had extras for his medication of all types. 

Adulthood:

Coming of Age: Basil's coming of age moment, was probably realizing he was never going to get passed being mentally ill when he was still very young. He doesn't really share this with anyone, thinking it's ridiculous and that that can't possibly be a very good coming of age moment.

Backstory/Background:

Past

Jax was born into a family of three, making them then a family of four. In the world in which he was born there had been nothing much marsh, swamp like lands. This had caused those that lived among the land Jax would come to call him to grow gills. Evolving some would say into a semi-species of frog.  Here Jax grew up a rather mundane life. Falling into line as the rest of the citizens of the marsh lands had done before him. Many of the people in the swamps had often been named with names including the letter ‘X’ for the Unknown Element that was a part of their people.

Early in his childhood he met and befriended another boy his age, who had been his neighbor it turned out. Dax. This boy would grow up beside him and get involved in many of Jax’s schemes. As well as Jax getting in many of Dax’s. The two had often explored the wastelands that surrounded and were dropped onto their Swamp Lands from the Island’s above. Not often did the people of the Islands visit the world below and so many did not know much about them. Young children often did not think such beings were real.

The boys themselves also did not believe such beings existed above in their skies. Though sometimes, just peeking from behind the clouds they could swear they saw the beginnings of a structure. Stories of those that lived on the island were that it were the offspring's of the rich and famous from a world now long since forgotten and destroyed. Their ancestors had supposedly escaped to the outer layer when news of the worlds destruction was no longer just something crazy people shouted in the streets.

Stories were the most popular form of entertainment for Jax’s people however. No one really took what they had to say seriously. Though ever couple of decades strange beings did visit the village. Often making such stories hard to not believe. But that’s all they signed such interactions off as anyway, as just stories. When Jax was still very young he would go with Dax to explore the Wastelands that were scattered pockets of lands filled with ‘Piles’. Among these Piles the people on the ground would explore and find all assortment of things they would incorporate into their archaic life styles.

One of these days Jax and Dax had been out exploring new things that had dropped onto the Pile’s and found a wrench. This had been after the birth of his younger sister who he had been wanting to find a toy for while he was out find parts for his and Dax’s latest invention. When he arrived home with a sack full of goodies for the family and their inventions he was stopped by his father who had informed him that they were going to have Visitor’s. Jax then proceeded to give his younger sister a teddy bear as he complained lightly about getting Visitors.

When the Visitors paid the local villages visits, it was often to take those that could be used as ‘batteries’ for something that was mostly unfathomable to the mind of his people. No one really knew what was going on with the ones they took, those often being young children who were said to make the best ‘batteries’. Jax was chosen in his family to be a battery for the Visitor’s for the next month. Jax’s father had looked upset, but clearly understood that there was nothing he could do to protect his son. The Visitors were more powerful and got away with doing whatever they had pleased.

Among several other children from his village Jax was taken away to become a battery for the strange people. This had been a practice that, as far as the stories could be traced back, had been going on for thousands of years. They were always to be taken to get ‘Sapped’.  What Jax would come to realize as he was being transported several layers under the ground was that there had been colonies of Downworlders below their feet. He would also learn that these people were also related to the Islanders, supposedly. Descendants of those who escaped the story of Cataclysms.

Soon after he would learn that The Islands and it’s people were as real as those of the Downworlders. As well, he would become the indentured servant to one of those Downworlders who would use his blood to power their homes, and other material possessions that, supposedly, used to run on things called ‘Sun power’ and ‘Electricity’. For a long time he had been stuck doing this, unable to see his family and friends for several years of his life while he was kept in containment and only interacted with for his blood.

In time he was eventually released and returned home back to his people. There he was allowed time to recover. Not many had seemed to return along with him that had be taken from the village as well. As it was more often that his people would never see those taken again. But occasionally, every so often, some did get returned. Jax had luckily been one of those few. But that did not help his emotional scarring and other damages done while kept in the abusive conditions he had been forced to deal with.

Present

Once he had fully matured and become an adult Jax and Dax, reunited once again and working on their inventions once more, had created a Time Travel/Dimensional Travel Machine and are working out the kinks in the machine. One night while he was working on this machine it had turned on and an explosion close to the controls had sent him into a dimensional rift that had been created at random by the machine.

The next thing he could remember he was waking up on the ground in the middle of a Park in Modern Day America, of planet Earth. Which someone would sarcastically tell him when he had asked where he was. As nothing had looked at all like anything he was familiar with at that time. Things looked far too different to be his world. He could assume that he had been sent somewhere completely different and that sarcastic person had only solidified the proof of it.

Jax eventually managed to get his footing in this new world and start a new life. All while trying to create a new machine to return back to his family and friends, as well as his own home world. Though it seems to be much more difficult for him to find parts he needs to recreate the machine, as the materials he needs has not yet been created, or discovered in this primitive and different world.

Jax returns home finally. Or does he. Maybe he’s actually [Redacted]
