Jawline correction surgery The patient is a 23-year-old woman with a very small mandible. She wished to get this surgically corrected. Her wish was to have a feminine dainty jaw that would be in harmony with the rest of her face. Seeking a consultation with an oral surgeon, she had been advised that she needed extensive surgery. Realizing the complexity of the surgery, the oral surgeon had referred her to our hospital. Dr SM Balaji, cosmetic jaw surgeon, examined the patient and obtained imaging studies including a 3D CT scan. This revealed an extremely micrognathic mandible as well as a short ramus. He explained to the patient that she needed to undergo surgery in two stages. The first step would include lower jaw advancement through bilateral sagittal split advancement of 10 mm along with an advancement genioplasty. The second step would include lengthening of the ramus through mandibular distraction osteogenesis. The patient consented to the surgical procedures and underwent the first stage. She now presents for the second stage surgery. Under general anesthesia, bone cuts were made in the ramus and the distractors were placed. A total of 15 mm of distraction osteogenesis was performed. This resulted in a perfectly shaped mandible for the patient. Her entire appearance was transformed and she was very happy with the results of the surgery.
