Good Evening. It is time for GhostWalker Headcanons.
as promised to @luri-isa and @sokkas-fan-lawyer and honestly anyone else who's down to clown with my loves.
There is a ton of pop culture that Ava is not aware of, due to her upbringing (or lack thereof,) once he finds this out, John makes it his personal mission to get her into as much as he can
John is a HUGE Star Wars fan, he sets out to make her into one too (she is instantly taken by it too. He won't shut up about it for WEEKS. Bucky wants to smother him in his sleep after the 23405th time he hears about it)
John is (dare I say canonically) touch starved. He loves to be hugged, touched, kissed, hair played with, you name it. He just feels like he isn't worthy of that kind of love. Ava loves to meet him on his level and be a touch away for him.
John is freakishly good at braiding hair. Ava loves that he will do her hair before they go on missions, he says its to keep her hair out of her face so she's safe, she says its because she likes looking pretty while she's killing people,
John loves cooking. He also loves cleaning and organizing and stocking, and shopping. mundanes if you will. It gives him something to do with his hands. Ava leaves messes everywhere she goes. she's not used to staying in one place for too long so she isn't used to tidying up either. Que her making a mess and him behind her cleaning it and bitching about her being sloppy.
Oh back on John loving cooking. He starts to try and teach her how to. She sucks at it. So she has decided to watch him and keep him company while he cooks. the countertop is her favorite spot to watch him work.
Nose kisses. enough said.
Once they are established as a couple, they don't leave on a mission without giving each other a kiss, and tapping their foreheads together, whispering the other to stay safe. They never know when it's going to be their last time, they are scared to admit that one day it will be.
When Ava got her bob, John looked at her then said "that's a fuck ass bob," and locked himself in his room. He was devastated to lose her hair. (she was like "tf????" but eventually realized it was because he thought he couldn't fix her hair anymore. so she started sending him cute short hair braid ideas.)
Ava got John his hat. it was a joke at first, but once he started wearing it like it was a crown she felt a small part of her warm deep in her chest.
Ideal date night for them is going to a game (See my other HC for them from my soccer night) or parallel play. Ava loves to do those adult coloring books and John is a big reader. The others will come in and find them sitting half on top of each other, John knee deep in a book and Ava coloring, her pencils everywhere.
When they fight, its bickering and then resolved. The one time they got into a full blown fight it was yelling and screaming and it ended with Ava storming out. John locked himself in his room and ugly cried (read he had a breakdown) because he thought he lost her like he did Olivia. the second Ava caught wind of that she phased into his room and held him, waiting till he was calm to tell him she'd never leave him. That's the last time they ever fought like that.
They don't sleep alone anymore. It makes dealing with nightmares so much easier, plus, John loves falling asleep feeling her by his side.
Ava will, from time to time, just watch him. The way he moves, how he laughs, the things he says, and she's mesmerized.
She is the most powerful and intelligent woman he has ever seen. He is the most beautiful and emotional man she has ever laid her eyes on.
Ava lives in fear that he will one day die and there will be nothing she can do to prevent it. He attracts danger everywhere he goes. All she can do is follow and hope she moves fast enough to pull him away.
They have two matching tattoos. one is one they got on a whim (it's just RBF in small typewriter font on their inner wrists) and the other is each other's birth flowers.
This is Ava's first relationship; everything is new and exciting to her. And for a first, John is strangely a total gentleman. This is John's only relationship outside of Olivia. He hasn't done any of these firsts since freshman year of high school. And for her first time, Ava is one of the easiest people to make smile.
Ava is (lowkey) obsessed with John's eyes.
John will do anything (literally ANYTHING) to get her to smile at him, if she laughs it's even better.
Ava is big spoon, John is little spoon. I don't make the rules.
as he gets more comfortable around her, his southern accent starts to slip, and he finds himself talking to her like that more often than not. she LOVES his accent.
They agree not to have kids. John loves his son but feels like he is going to fuck him up if he tries to be closer than he is now (he gets there don't worry, eventually he is comfortable being around him and he's a great Dad) and he feels like he's not ever going to be stable enough to try again. Ava doesn't want to have kids, she has her reasons but they all boil down to her feeling she isn't fit for that life.
When she gets plastered, John is her guard-dog. In the Tower, out at a bar, wherever they are, she can get drunk and she is not afraid of the repercussions because she knows he's watching her the entire time (and everyone around her. Plus he takes a sip of each of her drinks to make sure she's never roofied when they're out)
They fight over Coffee vs Tea every fucking morning.
John knows when she's having bad pain days, those mornings she finds meds wherever she goes, hot packs at the ready and soft blankets on every seat. She never mentions it, but she does kiss his cheek each time he walks past her.
They get to the point of closeness where they can converse with their eyes. It pisses everyone else off.
Everyone knows everyone's triggers, but Ava is the only one who can pull John out of an episode without getting hit (he always feels like shit when he hits the others, so they've decided to just leave it to Ava since she has the magic touch.)
Ava has some way of knowing when he's spiraling and doom-scrolling. she'll make up some task he needs to help her with, only to take his phone and hide it.
The Hoskins adore Ava. They loved Olivia, sure. She was one of Lemar's friends too. But the way that John lights up the second Ava walks into a room? He never did that with Olivia.
John looks at Ava like she hung the moon and stars. (Yelena will often tell him he looks like his brain exploded when he watches her.)
John and Ava are left handed (this is just because I am)
I've got more!!!! I will just stop here for the night
