The boys back in town-Sylvia and Jason
Chatzy style para- Part 2/5
Readers digest version: Sylvia, jason and Pippa arrive at the game and go inside. A fan spots jason and asks for a picture and asks if Sylvia is jasons wife, jason says yes just to get him off his back. Sylvia goes along with it. Beers are drank, Jason has a bit of a panic attack at seeing a game since leaving the NHL. They leave early and take a trip to walmart as they decide to stay overnight in chicago.Â
Sylvia: She slid out of the truck and onto the concrete. She slid the diaper bag over her shoulder and moved to jasons side "Do you need help with pips?" She asked curiously looking up at the man. Sylvia was still experiencing an orgasm high, but the naked eye wouldn't notice that.
Jason: "Good," he nodded. Putting himself back in his shorts and doing up his pants, Jason let out a sigh, then opened the door, jumping down to the pavement. "I can't decide if I want to take her big seat or just put her in the wrap," he thought aloud before decided to just carry her and grabbing the long strip of jersey fabric from the backseat. Wrapping it around his neck then his waist creating a pouch for her, he then turned to Sylvia. "Can you tie this in a double knot from behind?" he asked, holding up his screwed up hand and smiling.
Sylvia: Sylvia couldn't help but grin at the fabric wrapped around the man "Oh baby wearing, something your teammates probably arent used to seeing you doing" She teased before making the double knot against his back. Once she was finished she tapped his ass just as he had before to her. "It's a good look for you, you'll get lots of ladies" She teased winking at the man before pushing her long curls out of her face.
Jason: Jason hadn't thought of what his teammates would say and blushed. Shrugging he didn't say anything and instead reached in and took Pippa out of her seat. "C'mon pretty girl," he coo'd softly cradling her in his arms. "We're going to go watch Daddy's old life, before he got brain damage and ended up living here." Tucking her into the pouch he made sure she was secure before tucking her blanket in. "Remember Philippa, in this family we don't like the Blackhawks, so every time you see someone in red fall down you're going to cheer." He'd read that learning began right after birth and wanted to get her started right. "I seem to get ladies just fine," he pulled Sylvia to him and kissed her before slipping his jacket on and closing the door. "Feel free to touch my ass whenever you want by the way."
Sylvia: Sylvia admired the way the man talked to his daughter. She could see how much he loves her, just by how he looked at her. This was something sylvia loved about Jason, something she wish she could see in herself one day, if she ever had kids. Sylvia laughed "Does that go for me too? The cheering?" She asked curiously. She blushed at his words returning his kiss before nodding towards the stadium "Same goes for you" She told him slipping her hand into his as they walked. Sylvia was a little overwhelmed by the amount of people around, Plenty in red, but not many in the same colors as Jason, Pip and Sylvia. Sylvia didn't mind. She was used to being the odd one out when it came to sports teams, being a pittsburgh steelers fans close to Seattle came with it's own set of hardships.
Jason: "Even more so for you," he warned playfully. "If you want me on your back tonight you have to represent my name on it properly," Jason winked and squeezed his hand as they walked towards the executive entrance. "Lucky me," he nudged her, "your ass is fantASStic." Jason could sense that she was nervous and gave her hand a squeeze. He couldn't blame her. NHL games were overwhelming for anyone, but he knew he was going to bring added attention. Sure enough, minutes after walking in the door someone stopped him. "McKinney 33!" a heavy-set man in a Kings jersey cried and grabbed his shoulder. "How the fuck are ya man?"
Sylvia: Sylvia laughed softly "I think my ass will do enough representing for the both of us" She teased before walking in with him. At his squeeze she had a small sigh of relief. She had never been to a hockey game, but this was something she wanted to share with the man. She grinned at the reaction of the man. She looked at the man and down at pippa and smiled at the baby before leaning forward and placing a small peck on the girls head. She wasn't sure how to react to the bigger man talking to Jason, but she was excited for him.
Jason: "It's a damn good ass," he remarked. Jason hadn't been expecting to be recognized so quickly and he cringed when he heart his name. "Hey, man," he greeted the fan, ignoring the question. "Oh shit, is this your wife?" the fan asked and Jason felt his face getting hot. He glanced down and Sylvia a quickly before nodding, "Sure is," he lied. It was so much easier than telling the truth. "Well done," he watched the man looking her up and down and suddenly felt a bit protective. "We should probably get to our seats, do you want a picture or something?" Jason was almost impatient but he reminded himself that this was someone who hadn't forgotten him and that meant something. The husky man pulled out his phone and a permanent marker, gesturing for Jason to sign the back of his jersey where the numbers 33 were displayed. "Nice sweater," Jason laughed in response to seeing his own name and signed the centre of the first 3. Next the man held up his phone and Jason turned to Sylvia with an apologetic look. "Can you take this? And make sure you only get our shoulders up? I don't want Pippa in the picture. I'm so sorry." he said soft enough so only she could hear
Sylvia: Sylvia moved a little closer to Jason when he introduced her as his wife "Oh, I'm the one that did well" She corrected with a warm smile looking up at Jason. She knew the fan was looking her up and down, but wanted to ignore it. She was her for Jason and Pip, and wanted to enjoy the game. When he said yes to the mans question, she felt her heart race, the word wife and her in the same statement was something she hadn't ever thought of. Something she didn't expect would give her.. butterflies? She nodded at his question "Don't worry! It's not like it's the first time" she teased taking the picture of the two men only from the shoulders up, to make sure to not have pippa in the photo. She handed the phone back to the man and smiled "It was nice to meet you!" She said to the larger man before squeezing Jasons hand walking forward "So, are you always going to all me your wife?" She teased looking up at the man squeezing his hand sweetly.
Jason: Jason watched in admiration as she spoke to the man, amazed by how causal she was. He'd been hoping she'd play along but certainly hadn't expected it. Shaking the man's hand after the photo was taken, he quickly turned back to Sylvia, waiting to speak until he was sure he wouldn't be heard. "I'm so sorry about that," he blushed. For a grown man he'd never blushed as much as he did around her, in fact it felt like his face was always on fire. "I kind of panicked and didn't know how to explain it. I mean a guy, a hot chick, and a baby walk into a rink... it sounds like the beginning of a joke but I mean people just kind of make assumptions." Shaking his head he lead them towards the section their seats were in, the national anthem minutes from starting. "You are one hell of a fake with though!" he kissed her temple and showed the usher their tickets.
Sylvia: Sylvia smiled at his blush "Hey" She said softly to him "Don't be sorry. Don't worry, honestly. Your teammates are going to ask questions later, especially about Pips, I will go along with anything, believe me" She said squeezing his hand sweetly "Don't panic, I've got your back, and you've got my mine right?" She said looking at him as she leaned into his kiss. The usher showed them their seats, that were right against the rink "You had to be as close to the action as you can be, huh?" She asked raising an eyebrow teasingly at the man "Pips, are you excited?" She cooed down at the small baby who giggled in response to Sylvia
Jason: "I think most of them know the situations," he told her when they'd sat down. News travelled fast in the hockey world, even faster in a single locker room. He was sure anyone who'd ever played with him knew that he'd been left with a newborn. Jason knew that would happen though, people talked and he'd been texting the team's captain and his wife about baby stuff since before Pippa was even born. "If you're lucky I'll get you on your back too," he teased, starting to feel more relaxed in the environment. "I gotta be close enough to feel the experience," Jason smirked. It wasn't the best view, front row beside the away team's bench had a lot of blindspots, but he hadn't actually picked the seats, one of the team's reps had got them for him and after he denied sitting in a suit away from the action it was so surprise they put them in the splash zone. From the bench Dustin Brown smiled at him and Kris Versteeg gave him a nod. Jason had played with Dustin when they won the cup and had grown up with Kris. He hadn't seen either of them since retiring though.
Sylvia: Sylvia listened to the man and nodded " I just wasnt sure how much they all knew.. you know?" She said clarifying with Jason. She crossed one leg over the other and smiled "One day, we'll have to go ice skating, just for fun" She mentioned looking up "Well, I'd hope I would be later" She smirked before leaning up to whisper in his ear "or maybe I'll get you on yours" she spoke in a seductive tone before sitting back comfortably in her seat "So, give me some pointers, tell me at least the basic rules of Hockey?" She asked placing her hand comfortably on his leg
Jason: Jason smiled and rest his hand on her thigh. "Yeah," he nodded. "Nothing stays secret in the locker room." he chuckled remembering some of the confessions that came out in the showers. "Do you know how to skate?" his ears perked up at the thought of that. He hadn't skated in months, maybe even a year. "You're bad," he kissed the side of her face as moved back in her seat. "If we didn't have Pippa here I'd take you to the bathroom and show you just how bad," his voice was low and growly, and he hoped the people behind him couldn't hear. "Two teams, goal is to get puck in net, puck goes in net of other team they score goal, most goals wins. No being mean, bad behaviour gets you a time out in the box while the other team has the advantage, face offs depending on where the puck goes out of play, meaning if a player crosses the blue line before the puck has crossed it while they have possession it's offside and they drop the puck again. If it goes down the ice and...." Jason stopped, realizing he was probably confusing her. "Just watch and i'll tell you as we go. Do you want to hold Pips and I'll go get us beers?"
Sylvia: "That's the same way it is in ours, nothing is a secret and if you're found out for keeping one? Hazing. " She said with wide eyes before laughing. She bit her lip at the mention of skating "Does holding onto the edge and pulling myself along count?" She asked with blushed red cheeks "I'd love to learn though, just so you promise to not let me fall" She said softly. At his growling voice made her shiver "Don't do that to me, you're going to get me all rilled up in here. " She said to him "Next game, we'll go just us, and you can show me. Deal?" She asked with a simple wink. She listened to the man and nodded along making mental notes "Did you do a lot of fighting? Or get a lot of time outs?" She asked curiously before nodding "I can do that. I'll ask as I have them. " At the mention of her holding Pippa she nodded "Sounds good. Do you wanna take my card and I can get them? Or?" She asked putting her hands out for the toddler
Jason: "Oh man the hazing, I do not miss my rookie year," he grinned. The hazing had been worse in junior, but still nothing to scoff at when he reached the NHL level, there was a lot of naked runs to the trainer's office to get a towel when they'd stolen his. "No, you have to fall. If you don't fall you don't learn how to fall and you get hurt. But I'll teach you so you don't break yourself," Jason personally got a kick out of falling on the ice, since learning how to at a young age he'd always found it amusing, if it didn't result in an injury that is. "I'm going to show you when we get to where ever we're staying tonight. Speaking of," he pulled out his phone and opened a travel app. "You can book whatever you want, my info is logged in already," he handed her the phone. "I did my fair share of centre ice tillies, got my fisticuff on. But I wasn't a goon. As in I was a good player and not just a fighter. I used to get penalties for taking guys out by mistake a lot, or for bitching at the refs." he shrugged. "Just part of the game." getting to his feet he Lifted Pippa out of the wrap and held her out to Sylvia. "Can we just take in how big she is?" he laughed as she dangled in his arms, he hadn't really realized it until she was stretched out. "She's four months old and she's as long as my torso." Jason smiled as Sylvia took her and denied the offer for her to pay.
Sylvia: Sylvia took pips from Jason and laughed "She is really big. She's a cutie though, Stealing my heart already"She said honestly before looking at his phone "Why don't we find out where your teammates are staying? Unless you want more privacy?" She asked looking up at him as he started to walk down the isle "I got yelled at by coaches a lot because I liked to pull pony tails. It's not a penalty in our league, it's great. If it's out there, it's fair game" She said with a grin "Go get beers, and then come back and we can choose a hotel together, okay?" She said with a sweet smile. Once Jason left to go get beers, Sylvia looked down at Pippa, standing her up on Sylvias knees with her hands under the girls armpits bouncing her slightly, causing the toddler to giggle and smile. Sylvia couldn't help but grin back, her face lighting up with the toddlers.
Jason: Jason leaned down and kissed Pippa's forehead, then did the same to Sylvia. "She's already got mine," he tapped the baby on the nose and watched her toothless smile form. "They're at the Waldorf, if you can, get the one with the balcony, I want to feel the wind in my hair as I we fuck," he grinned and turned to leave but stopped. "And for the record, you won't get a penalty for pulling my pony tail either," with a wink he dashed up the stairs to the nearest bar, ordering two beers and a bottle of water for Pippa who couldn't quite pass for 21 yet. By some miracle he was back before puck drop, taking his seat and putting her beer in the cup holder while he watched Pippa grinning at her.
Sylvia: Sylvia didn't pay attention to the mans phone while he was gone. She was too focused on the toddler in her lap "You're so beautiful pips" She mentioned in a higher pitched voice than normal. She nuzzled her nose against the babies and giggles along with her. It was then that Jason walked up "Thanks hun" She said nodding to the beer. "Oh yeah? noted. You're giving me an arson against you. So, I might as well give you one. I like being pinned down" She mentioned under her breath just for the man to hear. Sylvia cradled the baby in her arms before taking a long sip of her beer, making sure to not spill any "Tell me something no one knows?" She asked glancing from the ice to Jason to make sure she wasn't talking over the game.
Jason: "You," he shook his head and groaned. "Are going to drive me crazy." The idea of pinning her against the wall and having his way with her was enough to make him want to ditch the game all together. He watch the game with only half of his attention, the rest of it was on Sylvia. "There's nothing I won't try if I'm really into someone," Jason's voice was low and his eyes still on the game. "I was lying about the dirtiest thing." He took a drink of his beer and glanced at her.
Sylvia: Sylvia smirked at his words and took a long drink of her beer. Her flirtatious personality had its perks. Sylvia jumped everything a player slammed into the wall in front of them "I feel the same way, I mean, I'll try everything once. You can't say you don't like it if you don't try it" she responded in the same low voice before arching an eyebrow looking at the man "lying isn't nice mister" she teased before tilting her head "so spill, what is the dirtiest thing?" Sylvia glanced back at the game just asJason's old team scored a goal. Sylvia cheered and helped Pippa clap
Jason: He couldn't help but laugh as she jumped. The bodies slamming didn't even phase him, in fact he only noticed it when it was someone he recognized, but lucky for them they weren't in the corners so it wasn't as bad as it could be. "So there's nothing that's a hard no?" he looked at her, surprised. "I can't tell you here," Jason could have sworn someone had lit a fire on his face, but tried to ignore it and instead just shrugged. He was about to explain when he saw the puck go in the net and let out an excited cry. As Dustin skated by the bench, shaking the hands of his teammates, Jason felt his heart ache. Instead of skating back to centre ice, Dustin kept going, and slowed down in front of Jason, placing his fist against the glass and shooting him a toothless grin. Jason's fist met his with the glass between them and as he watch Dustin return to the game he felt the tightness in his throat and excused himself, patting his pocket as he raced up the stairs, ensuring he had what he needed.
Sylvia: Sylvia shook her head "No, not really"she told him honestly before looking back at the rink. At his words she blushed a deep red and smirked at the same time. She looked forward to hearing from him, on what his honest answer was. Sylvia looked up at jason as he cheered, she saw a brightness in his eyes. As the teammate skated towards them she squeezed his hand sweetly. It was then that he left, like a bolt of lightning he was there and then gone. Sylvia help pippa and ran into the isle "Jason!" She yelled back "Stay.." She said to him with a sad face "I know this is hard. But please? We can all go.. We don't have to stay." She said to the man standing in the isle looking at him with glossed over eyes "Please?"
Jason: Jason stopped when he heard Sylvia. Turning around he let out a sigh, he could feel the eyes of the people around him as if they were staring into him. In his mind they were pointing and laughing, amused by the pathetic ex-hockey star who couldn't handle watching other people succeed. "Just..." he took a few steps towards her and put his hand on his shoulder, trying to steady himself and remain calm he led her back to the seats. "I just need a second okay," his voice was shaking but he wanted her to know that he was okay, or at least think he was. "I'm fine, I just need..." he looked at her finally letting his guard down. "Please?"
Sylvia: Sylvia put her hand in his and signed "You don't look fine.. what's going on love?" She asked as he ushered her and the toddler to their seats once again. She looked up at him confused. She was worried to say the least, she wasnt sure what was going on. Her hand sat comfortably in his sweaty palm "You're not okay.. but I'm not going to push you.. know I'm here. I'll be here" She said honestly with a small smile leaning up to peck his cheek before sitting down with Pips in her lap clapping her hands. Sylvia reached down adn took a long sip of her beer. She knew begging people to stay, never worked.
Jason: Jason wasn't ready to explain. He didn't have the words to express the heart wrenching feeling inside of him. It was like someone had slapped him with his dreams, the universe was mocking him, reminding him of every sick detail of the events leading up to his career. He felt horrible leaving her there, especially leaving her alone with Pippa, but he knew sitting down would only make it worse. Once on the concourse he headed straight for the bathroom, finding an open stall and slamming the door behind him. The clattering of the metal echoed through the empty bathroom and he smacked his fist against the red partition that separated the stalls. Tears stung his eyes and he slammed his fists on it again, doing everything he could to muffle the pathetic whimpering sounds he made. He'd cried at a rink before, hell he'd cried in that very rink, but never as a spectator. Slumped down onto the toilet he held his head in his hands and tried to let the feelings wash over him. The self loathing clung to every part of his being and he knew there was no way to fight the infestation that had been plaguing him for the last handful of years. Reaching into his pocket he pulled out the plastic bag and fished out two white rectangles. Swallowing them dry he sat for a minute letting the numbness take over. After washing his face and looking in the mirror he went back to his seat. "What did I miss?" he asked as if nothing had happened
Sylvia: Sylvia sat with Pippa in her lap watching the game constantly watching the game. Small tears welled up in her eyes knowing she couldn't run after Jason. She was the kind of person that always wanted to help others, even if it put herself at risk, but she wasnt about to do that with pippa. She knew if she ran after him, it would bring more attention to the group. She signed softly looking down and using one hand to wipe her eyes taking a deep breath in she finished off her beer in two swift chugs. It was then that Jason sat down next to her. She looked at him offering a sweet smile "Not much, there was a little scuffle, but no goals or anything" She said as pippa grinned seeing Jason again
Jason: "I'm hoping for a big ol' blowout," he told her. "You can't fully experience hockey until you see someone lose a tooth," Jason pointed to his top teeth, tapping them and feeling nothing. "Lost these in junior," he explained, not bothering to point out all the other teeth he'd lost. He wasn't going to mention the event just a few minutes ago, not when he finally felt good, sleepy, but good. It was the feeling he'd gotten comfortable with. They watched the seconds on the clock go down and with the first period of the game over Jason stood up. "Hungry?" he asked. "I know this one sure is."
Jason: He held his arms out for Pippa
Sylvia: Sylvia handed pippa to jason and shook her head "I'm not super hungry, but I just downed that beer so I should probably eat. What do you suggest?"she asked looking up at him standing up so she could go with him "Nothing? Absolutely nothing? That's so odd" She said with a small chuckle. She was going to ignore the situation, she didn't want to ruin the night by getting stuck on the small moment "I know at baseball games, it's garlic fries. What is it for hockey?"
Jason: Jason didn't say anything as they walked up the stairs, it wasn't until they were on the concourse and she she chuckled that he realized he'd been dazed out. "Sorry," he shrugged, "I'll explain later." He hoped she wouldn't push it and was beyond relieved when she turned the topic to food. "When I was a kid it was always hamburgers and nachos. They kind of have everything here though. I'll probably just get a slice or something," physically he wasn't hungry, but he knew that mixing Xanax and beer wasn't smart and he needed something to balance it out. "I think Pips is going to go with the bottle of donor #45062 from the milk bank. A classic choice rich with a nice booby flavour and a subtle hint of sweetness."
Sylvia: Sylvia smiled sweetly Before nodding "Do you wanna go feed her and I'll grab us some food?" she said to him before nodding to pizza place a little bit down the concourse "I can get it" She said standing on her tip toes to kiss his cheek before rushing to the Pizza place, getting two slices and another beer for herself. She carried them knowing that later there was going to be a conversation, but she didn't want to ruin the night. She kept thinking about the interaction in the truck, and how good it was, and how it wasnt something she had expected from the two of them having sex, but it felt different, it felt better.
Jason: He hesitated before finally nodding and letting her go off. Now that Pippa was somewhat aware of the world around her, feedings took twice as long. She spent half of the time distracted by anything that moved. Finding a somewhat isolated corner, Jason got her back in the wrap and hoped she'd drink the bottle even though it wasn't warmed up. As he tried to coax her into taking the lukewarm bottle his mind drifted back to the event in the truck. He hadn't been expecting their relationship to turn sexual. Of course he'd thought about it, but he'd thought about most girls he knew, always curious what they'd be like. Pippa was only a quarter done by the time Sylvia found him. He was surprised by how excited he was to see her walk around the corner. It almost felt wrong to be so eager to be around someone you weren't dating
Sylvia: Sylvia smiled holding up the two slices "I didn't know if you wanted another beer, you havent even finished your first. So I didnt grab you one, but I can get you one if you want one"She said looking over her shoulder a bit towards the carts "Hows she doing? Is it too loud?" She asked sympathetically. She leaned her head on Jasons shoulder looking at Pippa. Sylvia had been terrified of moving to Rockford. She had planned to come to rockford and spend the rest of her life just sleeping with different people, and call it a life. when she died, she died alone and in the ground. But now? She wasn't sure. There was a certain way jason made her feel, something she hadn't felt for years. She shook this idea away pushing her long locks over her shoulder.
Jason: "I'm good," he smiled. He knew better than to drink with the pills, he might have been a little self destructive, but he wasn't stupid. Glancing down he noticed she'd started sucking again, but stopped when they stopped talking "She's so easily distracted," Jason sighed and adjusted his grip on her. "I should have brought her some of those headphones that block out sound, but I think she'd just get grumpy." He was tired, not because of the xanax, but because he wasn't used to being around this much action. He'd spent the last few months at home and being out with Pippa was proving to be more work than he'd anticipated. He tried not to get frustrated when she started to fuss he decided to switch arms, propping her up so she was facing Sylvia. "Philippa McKinney," he warned gently when she let out a cry. "See this is the kind of thing that makes me wish she had a mother who could be around, I feel like mothers probably just know what to do." Jason noticed again that as he spoke she drank, and when he stopped she stopped. "Okay I guess we have to keep talking so she'll keep eating," he laughed.
Sylvia: Sylvia admired the baby in his arms, she was beautiful She looked like jason in most of her features, it was something she loved to see. The way he acted with her was different than he acted around anyone else and she was lucky to be around them to see that "Yeah, I mean. I don't like headphones either. Do you wanna go back to the hotel and give her some quiet? or stay for the game?" She asked curiously. Sylvias heart broke slightly when he mentioned a mom "I mean.. It's an instinct thing. Maybe she just likes hearing your voice, I know I do" The flirted before taking a small bite of her pizza slice "So Jason McKinney, Why is it, that you could have any girl in the world and I'm lucky enough to be on this.. date with you" She said pausing beofre date, unsure if that was what this was.
Jason: "Honestly?" he sighed. "I wouldn't mind going back so she can relax a bit, but I'd feel bad leaving after one period. I mean it's your first game, and the guys know I'm here. Maybe we can stay for the second? Then at least we see the majority." He'd thought about leaving when she'd suggested it earlier, but part of him, maybe the masochistic part, wanted to stay and prove he could. "I don't think I was born with those instincts," he chuckled. "I can't tell you how many times I've had to wrap her in paper towel and a grocery bag because I've run out of diapers. The first time I tried to give her a bath I filled up the bathtub, then realizing she couldn't hold up her own head I got in with her. She screamed bloody murder and I can't say I blame her. Now I just take her in the shower," Jason shook his head and snickered at himself. "It's embarrassing but I'm afraid to be in a different room from her, especially when I can't hear her." He didn't know why he was telling her that, it wasn't something he needed to advertise. "Oh so you like awkward Canadian accents?" he glanced at her with his eyebrows raised. Meanwhile, Pippa had finished half of her bottle and was eating contently as he spoke. "Any girl in the world?" he questioned her exaggerated estimation. "Why wouldn't I pick you?" he shrugged, flattered that she thought so highly of him, but feeling strangely vulnerable. His little meltdown had left him feeling raw, like he needed to put a wall around him, something he was failing horribly at. "I'm not as great as you think," he said with a half smile.
Sylvia: Sylvia smiled and nodded "sounds good, I don't mind leaving, there's a lot of things that can happen with a baby at a hockey game" she mentioned off handedly before laughing "you're cute. You're getting the hang of it now, I mean, she's in a diaper, dressed and happy" she said to him leaning her head comfortably on his arm. Sylvia wasn't tall enough for his shoulder, but his arm worked the same. Hearing the stories of Jason and pippa brought a large smile on her face. He loved her so much so unconditionally and so fully. "don't be embarrassed." she said to him "it's instincts to want to be near her" Sylvia nodded and smiled "any girl. And yes, your accent is lovely" so told him hearing the fans cheer from the rink. " I don't know. I have a lot of baggage. There's a lot about me you don't know. Believe me that makes two of us. But the right person will still thing you're great"
Jason: "There sure are," Jason shrugged. There were lots of things that could happen with a baby in any setting, he knew because it kept him up at night, worrying about what would happen. "Yeah, right now she's okay, but who knows until the next meltdown," he said it with a chuckle but was all too serious. "Instinct maybe, but I'm a little obsessive," he looked over and Sylvia with a smile, rolling his eyes a little. "I don't really want just any girl," that shrug again, he wasn't sure he was comfortable with the topic of his less that impressive love life. "I mean sure a lot of girls might want to be with an NHL player or a retired player, but I don't really want someone who wants me for my past life y'know? Baggage comes with the territory of being alive I guess."
Sylvia: Sylvia nodded and moved so she could see the ice and walked back to jason "Two zip" She said offering him a large smile. She looked down at Pippa who had finished the whole bottle "Well look at that. Someone was hungry huh?" She said to the baby before looking up at jason "Do you wanna go sit down so you can eat?" She offered holding up his plate of pizza "You look.. exhausted" She said honestly "I'm gonna need you to be awake for later" She winked and nudged him before nodding towards the stairs to their seats "Unless you wanna leave?"
Jason: Jason grinned back at her, a somewhat forced smile even though he was excited. "She just needed to concentrate," he chuckled propping Pippa onto his shoulder and rubbing her back. "It's hard work being a baby AND eating at the same time. So many people, so many colours," he coo'd more to the baby than to Sylvia. Rocking a little bit and waiting for Pippa to digest her dinner a bit he wondered what his life would have looked like if he'd have been able to play. He'd be playing that very game, probably assisting Dustin's goal, maybe scoring his own. One thing was certain, there would have been a fight. Jason knew better than to think too hard about the what ifs. "She's almost good," he continued patting Pippa's tiny back. "Thanks," he said sarcastically. "Oh I think I'll be able to wake up for you." As he said the last word he heard Pippa burp, and returned her to her position in the wrap then head towards their seats, it wasn't until he entered the rink that he realized she'd puked down his back.
Sylvia: Sylvia nodded "I'm that way too. I don't eat if I get distracted and then it takes me hours. It's terrible " She said laughing before looking up at him as he coo'd at the baby. She let out a soft sign and looked around at the amount of people, most of the drunk. "Is this normal? I don't even see this many drunk people at football games" She asked honestly looking up at the man. "You two are fine, take your time" She told him before following him down the stairs. She had been looking down at her feet before they got to their seats when she noticed the puke herself "Shit Jase" She said softly to him "She puked" She metnioned before thinking of how to work this out "Here, take the jersey I'm wearing, I'll just hang out in my Tank top, I'll be okay?" She offered.
Jason: "It's a hard knock life for you guys, I guess looking pretty must have its downfalls," he teased. "This is nothing," he shook his head. "I've seen guys pass out on the concourse. It's a smaller venue, and the draft is plentiful. There's a rink in Canada that has draft beer so strong they call it crack beer, because after a few pops you're done." Jason explained with a chuckle. He'd never been one to get a little fuzzy at a game, but then again he'd never really been to NHL games, sure when he was a kid and when he played in junior, but not since reaching the legal drinking age. He'd settled in his seat when Sylvia pointed it out. "Is it bad?" he asked her, turning to see the white stain. "Don't worry," he shook his head and passed the baby to her then pulled off his jacket. "I can't wear my own jersey, and you'll freeze. Besides, I can't focus on a game with you getting all boobz McGee up in here."
Sylvia: "Oh yeah, I just get so distracted by myself" She said with a small laugh "You'll have to take me there. I'm a huge beer gal, you know that" She replied with a chuckle. She nodded "Oh yeah, it's bad" She told him before holding Pippa "I won't be cold, nor will my boobs be out! I can contain them" She said with a nod "Are you going to be okay without your jacket?" She asked feeling bad, that he might be cold or even the least bit uncomfortable. Sylvia sat down comfortably in her seat, just as they scored a goal, bringing the score up to 3-0. Sylvia cheered and clapped looking over at Sylvia.
Jason: "I get distracted by you too," he winked. "I would, but they're building a new arena so I don't think it'll be the same. That and I wouldn't inflict Edmonton, Alberta on anybody. We all know Lethbridge is the best city in Alberta." Jason laughed knowing she likely had no idea where either of those places were. "I don't know if you caught this in the truck, but I'm a big boy," he said suggestively. "I'll be alright. Besides, I have to show the boys these guns are still golden," he flexed his arm and grinned. It was Dustin's second goal of the night and team was abuzz with excitement on the bench. Jason swallowed hard and prayed he wouldn't skate past him again. Instead he shot him a sad smile from the bench and tok different rout back to centre ice. For some reason seeing them score made it harder. Not because he wasn't happy for them, but because he remembered so vividly being the first person Dustin turned to when the puck hit the back of the net.
Sylvia: Sylvia blushed at his first comment. She had probably blushed more in one night than she had in a whole week before. Sylvia listened to the man rambled about canada and shook her head "Yeah! I mean, Everyone knows that" She teased before smiling and looking down "Oh yeah"She said squeezing his arm. She wrapped an arm around the mans waist slowly and looked up "Hey Jason?" She said softly before standing on her tip toes to press her lips to his just for a moment "I'm having a really good time tonight, honestly." Her voice was soft, but loud enough for him to hear. She could tell that this was hurting him, but she hoped he was also having a good time.
Jason: Jason grinned as her small hand touched his arm muscle. He wasn't as solid as he had been during his final season, but he was still in decent shape considering he spent the majority of his days at home with Pippa. He hadn't been expecting her arms to reach around his waist but was hardly in a place to protest as he felt the warmth of her body pressing against his. "I'm glad," he smiled, trying to wash away the panicking sensation that had being to fill him. It was heavy, like dread, like the moment when things are good and you remember that when you get home you'll discover everything turned upside down. Or when you get lost in something, like the beautiful girl beside you and you suddenly remember that you're not the person you used to be, that the team your watching play hasn't been yours for years and you've woken up in a cold sweat yet again regretting the actions that caused your dream to slip away. He held on to her tighter than he usually would, his heart rattling in his chest as the puck dropped again at centre ice and the Kings went on the defensive. He felt guilty leaving, pulling her away from her first NHL game, almost certain that this experience would ruin it for her, embarrassed that his former teammates would ask why they didn't see him there. But still he longed to be somewhere quiet with her. The lights felt too bright and the noise was making him nauseous. It was these kinds of situations that reminded him just how severe his symptoms could be. Taking a deep breath and glancing down at Philippa who was nodding in and out, he turned to Sylvia, trying to hide the panic in his eyes. "I think we should go," he said softly. Those simple words were all it took to send one of the walls he used to protect himself falling to the ground in a heap of dust and glory.
Sylvia: Sylvia was listening to the game and watching the players move from end to end on the ice before his words brought her into reality. She looked up at him locking eyes and nodded leaving her full beer in the cup holder "Lets go" She said to him just as soft, putting her free hand out to him as she held Pippa. She was almost excited that they were leaving. A large part of her just wanted to be somewhere with jason, somewhere they could talk and get to know eachother. She walked with him quickly through the concorse and soon was hit with a gust of cold wind. It was dark, but it was comfortable outside. "To the hotel? Or did you want to go back to rockford?" She asked him sweetly. She wanted to do what he wanted to do, she could tell something wasn't right, and she wanted to help him so badly, but without knowing what was wrong, she had no idea how to.
Jason: He let her guide him up the stairs and onto the concourse and out the door before speaking. He'd tucked a blanket over Pippa and could hear her starting to grumble. In a way her displeasure was going to work in his favour, it would have been hell for them to make her drive back to Rockford, especially late at night. "Hotel," he said with a slight smirk and took a deep breath, letting the cool air of the dark night surround him. The sounds of the city were just as jarring as they'd ever been but with Sylvia's hand clutching his they seemed almost distant. After Pippa was settled in her seat and they were on their way downtown he tossed Sylvia his phone to make the reservation and hoped she'd be able to get something. If not, he wasn't above calling directly. Seldom did he use his name but there were times when the concierge or sales person would recognize him and work just a little harder. He tended to understate just how big his short career had been in terms of media, but he knew he wasn't someone who would be soon forgotten. "Do you want to grab a toothbrush or something?" he asked, seeing a sign for an all night Wal-Mart. He was already turning into the parking lot before she could reply, knowing that by midnight tonight he'd be out of formula and diapers.
I can contain them" She said with a nod "Are you going to be okay without your jacket?" "Do you want to grab a toothbrush or something?" he asked, seeing a sign for an all night Wal-Mart. He was already turning into the parking lot before she could reply, knowing that by midnight tonight he'd be out of formula and diapers.
Sylvia: Sylvia watched Jason put Pippa in her car seat catching his phone. She chuckled at his smirk "I had hoped you were gonna say that" She said to him before looking down at his phone scrolling through the travel app "Not much to chose from for hotels, do you prefer one over the other?" She asked curiously to the man as she looked into a few of them. Sylvia looked up at his question and nodded "Yeah, I can grab a tooth brush and like a pair of yoga pants for tomorrow. Do you want me to run in so you can stay out here with pips? Or?" She asked as she watched him park. She glanced down at his phone as he got a text update on the score. She hit the small black x pushing her long curls out of her face. She took the hair tie off her wrist and pulled her long hair up into a high pony tail taking in the sights of the city around them.
Jason: "Good," he laughed. "The Waldorf if they have a room, preferably the balcony suit. Don't worry about the price tag or whatever, I'm a member anyway," he told her, not wanting to deal with going to another hotel if his old friends wanted to meet up. He knew he needed to see them, he needed to talk to Dustin and show them all that he was doing alright. No one really knew about his mind the way they did. To the average person it was just a shitty incident that meant he wasn't making millions to play a game, but to the people who'd experienced it, there was so much more. "Nah, I need some stuff too," he pulled into the parking spot and grabbed Pippa's seat, not wanting to deal with the hassle of moving her. Once inside he set the carrier in a cart and tried to distract her with faces until they started moving. In a lot of ways she was just like him, they both hated being still. Turning towards the baby section he kept one eye on Pippa and another on the signs, shopping had never been his forte and he was almost overwhelmed by the sheer amount of stuff that surrounded them.
Sylvia: Sylvia nodded and made the reservation "Snagged the last one" She said to him setting it all up before confirming and locking his phone. She hopped out of his truck gracefully walking inside with him. She noticed how quiet he had been. She walked through the store with him quietly "Do you want me to grab anything? Divide and conquer? Or we could just take a romantic stroll through walmart" She teased hoping to make him laugh. Sylvia wasn't the type to be quiet, she was normally outgoing and continuing the conversation but, she didn't want to screw things up by being overly talkative. Sylvia looked at the baby clothes with a small smile on her face. She adored Pippa, it brought a different mindset on kids to light for the woman.
Jason: "Nothing more romantic than the ol' wally mart after hours," he chuckled, "I wonder if people who screw in wal-mart join Sam's club. Y'know like the mile high club but for wal-mart?" Jason spoke rather flatly, as if the question was one that questioned their entire existence. He usually wasn't one to make silly remarks but the pills were still making things fuzzy enough that he could handle a bit of interacting. "What do you want to sleep in?" he asked Pippa as if she could respond and held up two sleepers, one yellow with white polka dots and a little giraffe on the front, and the other navy and white stripes with a pink bow. "You're right, bows are always in fashion," he tossed it in the cart and moved on to the formula.
Sylvia: "Oh yeah, I got kicked out of a walmart when I was 17. I was goofing around with friends, jumping in the balls and stuff" She trailed off at the memory pursing her lips "Then my at the time boyfriend yelled at me in the middle of an isle for getting too close to one of the guys" She said with pursed lips nodding "good memories" She mentioned before looking at the onsies. She looked over at pippa and nodded "Good choice, Navy will bring out your eyes" She teased before following the man. She noticed how quiet he was and decided to finally ask "Are you alright?" Ger voice was soft as she looked up at him with slightly sad eyes.
Jason: Jason chuckled, trying to imagine Sylvia as a teenager and shook his head. He had no doubt in his mind she was trouble back then. To be fair, at 17 he wasn't exactly a saint either. "I'm fine," he replied with a shrug and scanned the shelves for the formula he usually bought, the kind his sister had recommended when they realized he'd go broke trying to buy just breast milk. Finding the can he tossed it in the cart along with a few bottles and other things. He realized he definitely took their supply at home for granted as he picked up a few extra blankets for her and went to get himself a shirt or something for tomorrow. It was after he'd found a flannel button up and some ridiculous boxers with elephants on them that he turned to Sylvia. "Should we be buy...?" he trailed off unsure how to finish the sentence
Sylvia: Sylvia grabbed a pair of yoga pants, a pair of lacy boy short style underwear and a simple vneck shirt she found on the clearance rack. She put the items in the cart and pursed her lips at his question. She smirked slightly and tilted her head "I mean, I wouldn't complain.. but that much is totally up to you" She teased before looking at his boxers "Super cute, are these the dad boxers?" She teased before nudging him playfully. Sylvia was doing anything to make the man laugh, she wanted nothing more than to see the smile she had enjoyed through the first half of their date make an appearance on his lips once again. "I can grab us some tooth brushes while you grab those..?" She suggested "Or we could swap, I can grab them you could grab the tooth brushes"
Jason: Jason smiled at her comment and laughed a little. He could tell she was trying to make him laugh and he felt bad for his shift in mood. "You do toothbrushes I'll do... other stuff," he nodded and they head in the direction of the pharmacy, section, splitting off into different aisles. He stood in the 'family planning' aisle staring at the selection in front of him. He couldn't remember the last time he'd bought anything like that. Easily a year or more considering the giant stash he had in his closet. Grabbing a few different boxes he had and laugh at the names printed across the front. 'Magnum: Ecstacy' and 'XXL: Ribbed' were among the ones in his cart and they sounded like weird party drugs rather than contraceptives. Feeling hopeful, he added a few bottles of interesting lube and anything that vibrated, hiding it under the clothes before heading off in search of his date.
Sylvia: Sylvia smiled and nodded before walking off towards the tooth brushes. She stood looking at the different flavors. She was a bit overwhelmed as she grabbed one simple mint crest and one childrens bubble gum. Grabbing a two pack of manual toothbrushes she smiled at the man as he came around the corner. She tossed the items into the cart "Judge me. I gag if I have mint.. so, bubble gum it is" She said as her cheeks turned a bright red. It was rare that people saw that she brushed with childrens toothpaste, mostly because the only people in her apartment other than herself were the hook ups she had, the ones she ushered out before the sun came up. "I think we got everything?" She suggested glancing down checking off her mental check list. The night had shifted, and she could only pinpoint the moment at the hockey arena as the starting place. She hoped it would get back to the fun loving, giggly, flirtatious way it was in the truck on the way to the game.
Jason: Jason looked at her half smiling half confused. "I hope that's the only time you gag," he replied matter of factly, nudging her slightly. He liked the way her face brightened with embarrassment. There's was something incredibly alluring about her honesty and slight awkwardness about something as silly as toothpaste. "Yeah," he nodded and headed for the cash. "How about you take Pippa out to the truck while I pay," he handed her the keys. "She's starting to get grumpy from the lights." It was only partially true, the truth was he didn't want her to see how much he'd put in the cart, just in case he seemed weird. He wasn't sure how much was too much and began re-thinking the third bottle of lube as he tossed a few snacks into the cart, waiting for his turn in line
Sylvia: Sylvia smirked and leaned up to whisper to him "I don't have a gag reflex babe" She spoke seductively before placing a sweet kiss on his cheek. "Sounds like a plan" She took the keys from him "Come on Pips! Lets go have girl talk" She said to the small baby who was half asleep. She carried the car seat out to the car "Oh pips.. What am I gonna do?" she said looking down at the baby. She opened the back door of the truck and started to strap the car seat back into its base "Your dads pretty special.. and I just. I don't know why. I can't put a finger on it" she said to the girl who looked like she was about to cry. "Oh shit.. no no no" She mumbled as she started to panic. She slid up into the seat next to the car seat, leaving the door open as she started to sing "I like giants" by Kimya Dawson as the girl relaxed and had a small smile on her face.
Jason: Letting out a barely audible groan, he felt himself clench at her comment. He wanted nothing more than to have her demonstrate for him. Jason couldn't help but smile as he watched them walk out, Sylvia talking to Pippa just like he did. He avoided eye contact with the cashier, a young girl who was probably as embarrassed as he was, and was more than relieved when he has the bags in his hands and was walking to the truck. He could hear her before he got there, giggles mixed with a melody he couldn't quite recognize. She didn't sound too bad for someone who was sitting in the back seat singing about giants to a baby. He stood for a few seconds, watching her and smiling before deciding he'd been creepy enough for one night. "Is she still awake?" he asked as if he'd heard nothing and put the bags in the bed of the truck.
Sylvia: Sylvia jumped slightly as she heard his voice "Barely" She said with a smile as she slipped out of the seat onto the ground once again "15 years in the music programs works wonders sometimes" She said with a small smile. "She likes Kimya dawson" she mentioned to the man before helping him put the bags in the back "To the hotel?" She asked standing next to him slightly leaning her back against his truck so she could look up at the taller man. She studied his face in this lighting. Shitty street lights in the parking lot added a simple hit of shadows that was beautiful, one she was surprised by. "You're beautiful." She mumbled.
Jason: "She'll be out soon enough," he smiled, knowing the minute they started moving she wouldn't be able to resist sleep. "I didn't know you were into music," he looked at her almost bewildered. It seemed like the kind of thing he would have learned after all this time. Had he really been monopolizing their conversations so much? What else had he missed knowing about her. "I don't know who that is," Jason chuckled, looking over at her as she rest against the truck, she looked so relaxed, like she was ready for anything the world had to throw at her, he envied that. Moving a little closer to her he cocked his head to the side, an awkward shyness taking over his face. "No I'm not," he shook his head and laughed nervously.
Sylvia: "Ill have to show you some of her music, she was a huge part of the juno sound track" She said honestly. As he cocked his head she couldnt help but smile. Her fingers looped in his belt loops tugging him closer "Yes you are. That nervous laugh, that confused smile, the way you talk to your daughter.. It's beautiful. and I'm not even talking about the physical things yet." She mentioned moving her hand to rest on his waist "You, Jason Mckinney, are beautiful" She said to him simply. She had been told, there was always something beautiful to find in someone, Jason just had more than others.
Jason: "Juno," he groaned, shaking his head and laughing. "My sister was obsessed with that movie. Then again she probably related to it on an emotional level, what with being a pregnant teenager at one point." Jason felt bad teasing his sister without her being there to defend herself, but he'd gone through enough movie nights before forced to watch it that he couldn't feel too bad. It was a good enough movie but it had been tainted by her obsession. Letting her pull him closer he kept his head tilted, blushing brighter as she spoke. Shaking his head he looked down at the ground and grabbed her hands, twisting his fingers between hers. "That's not beautiful," he shook his head, swallowing a lump in his throat. "What's beautiful is you being willing to put up with all my shit. The way you don't even bat an eye when Pippa does something to change our plans, or how you just roll with it when I have to call you my wife because I don't want to explain things to a fan." Jason shrugged and looked back up at her, moving closer to her face. "What's beautiful will be seeing you underneath me tonight," he added with a suggestive smirk and pressed his lips against hers quickly, before pulling away and climbing in the driver's seat.
Sylvia: Sylvia laced her fingers with his a small smile playing on her lips. She couldn't help but think about how cute his blush was, and the way he listed off things about her that he liked. "We're both beautiful." She said to him honestly "In different ways" She said as her smile grew. She shivered at his words and returned the kiss. When he pulled away she couldn't help but groan "God damnit Mckinney" She mumbled before moving to the passenger seat climbing up into it. She buckled up and plugged her phone into the aux chord on his stereo "Kimya Dawson" She said to him before playing I like giants. She placed her hand on his left once again, the place it had been on the way to the hockey Arena.
Sylvia: Sylvia sang along to the music just loud enough to hear. She had been in music for more than 15 years, playing lots of coffee shop gigs in portland, and going to state in high school for many solos. She just didn't sing often now.
Jason: Jason laughed as he started the truck, hearing her dismay when he ended their kiss prematurely. "Don't worry, I'll have better than that to give you later tonight," he reminded her as she buckled up and plugged her phone in. The song sounded familiar, definitely one he'd heard in his sister's car. He smiled at her, she really did have a nice voice. He didn't complain when she kept singing, enjoying the relative silence as they drove towards the hotel he'd spent more than a few nights in.Â
