Caleb watches, terribly charmed, as the beautiful lavender tiefling gently hip checks the equally stunning drow Caleb just met, Essek, who fondly rolls his eyes at him and receives a kiss on the cheek for it.

He feels his blush deepen as the tiefling leans into his space and says, "I'm Molly– pleasure is all yours, clearly. So, what brings you to our little corner of the universe?"

Essek looks up when he enters the room, hastily setting down his quill. He’s seated at the same desk where Caleb had left him, and for a moment he wonders whether the drow has moved at all since then.

“Good morning,” Essek says. He winces a bit as the words leave his mouth stilted, as though he has very little practice with them.

Caleb offers him a smile. “Good morning,” he echoes.

Essek seems uncertain of whether to stand or stay seated, and settles on gesturing toward the door. “I can… provide breakfast?”

Caleb nods. “Ja, that would be nice, if it isn’t too much trouble.”

“Not at all,” Essek answers, still sounding lost.

He stays in the chair a moment, hands braced on the arms ready to push himself up, eyes fixed uncertainly on Caleb.

“I, ah…” Caleb says with a wry smile. “I won’t go through your things.”

“You’ve heard of her, haven’t you?” they whispered on her deck. “The Sapphire of the Sea, the most feared and vicious pirate in these waters.”

They could probably use the series of ropes to reach the windowsill, and from there shimmy down the bricks of the wall to the top of the nearest bookcase and climb down the shelves. That would be the fastest way down, and the one the intruder would be least likely to check. It’s just Essek, though, and he doesn’t feel like breaking an ankle tonight, so…

“Take the stairs,” he grunts to Ilse. “He’s not looking, anyway. I’ll catch up in a minute.”

There’s not even a hint of skepticism in Ilse’s nod, and he shakes his head as she goes. The blind obedience is too familiar.
