Smoke drifted up from the long barrel of Jaref’s pistol. The dim light of the moons crept in through the curtains. Blood rushed from the fatal wound of the body on the floor. It was a man, in his late twenties. Jaref holstered his pistol and examined the fresh corpse. The dead man wore a business suit. It was well fitted, and bore a nametag with his picture and credentials. “Well, Tommy, looks like you’ll be starting a new position tomorrow.” Jaref smirked. “Can’t be breaching contracts with the boss after all.” Jaref stood and ran a hand through his oiled back hair. With his other hand he glanced at his watch. “Job’s done, miss, he’ll be back tomorrow.” There was no response. Jaref examined the room once more before he left. Blood had splattered along the bed and walls. More, still, was rushing from the fresh wound. “Work is hell my friend, welcome.” Jaref gave a curt bow and was gone. A small wisp of tar black smoke dissipated from where he was.He appeared in a dimly lit office. A fireplace stood out in the dark room. There was a soft crackle and pop and the fire grew brighter. It made his red tinted skin appear darker than it was. Like an animal of the night, his eyes reflected light back. His gaze met hers. Lotus was sitting back in her leather office chair. Her legs were crossed and rested on a footrest that was only half hidden by her desk. It struggled underneath her feet. Hands and knees on the floor.
“New footrest miss?” Lotus smirked. “He deserved a... Promotion.” She dug her heels in a bit more as she scooted her chair closer to the desk. Lotus stamped a paper and snapped a finger. It slipped into an envelope and slid itself toward Jaref. “Good boy, here is your payment.”Jaref bowed low. “Is there anything else I can assist you with miss?” Her footrest crumpled and struggled to regain its composure. Jaref grimaced.
“Does this bother you sweetheart?” Lotus raised a brow.
“No miss. They defile such an honor with their struggle. How dare they treat such a blessing as a burden.”
Lotus chuckled. “My word Jaref, are you jealous?”
Jaref blushed. “No one is worthy of your direct punishment. That is why I exist. I am your executioner miss. You need not defile yourself with such trash.”“You are jealous. How adorable.” She kicked back from her footrest, who fell to the floor. It was a middle aged man. He panted and struggled to get back up. He collapsed and fell unconscious. “They don’t make them like they used to. Overweight, unhealthy, no motivation.” She sighed. Lotus stood up and sauntered over toward Jaref. She had picked up the envelope. Lotus was a few inches taller than Jaref. She reached toward his chest and brushed her hand along it. “You poor pent up tool.” Lotus slipped the envelope into the inner pocket of his suit and she leaned in closer to his ear. Strands of her long pink hair fell in front of her face and brushed against his neck. Goosebumps raced across his skin. “You can have him for dinner.” She whispered and walked past him. She smelled of rose and cinnamon. A scent that became a favorite of Jaref’s over time. The door closed as she left the office room. Her scent lingered in the room. He walked over to her desk. Underneath was the waste of a man that defiled her. He was covered in her scent. “Gluttonous filth.” Jaref muttered as his fingernails grew into blackened blades. Jaref kneeled and hunched under the desk. His fingernails dug into the man’s flesh as he dragged him from out of the desk. The sharp pain woke the man. “Seq’ ta hich.” Jaref’s magic paralyzed the man. “You will watch.” With one hand, Jaref held the man up off the ground. With his free hand, his blackened nails disemboweled the man with a swift swipe.********************Her heels clacked against the polished stone of the hallway. “Ma’am you shouldn’t be here.” A security officer approached.
“Shouldn’t I?” Her pink eyes shimmered with light. “I must have the wrong floor. So easy to get lost in these towers.” She stood in place as he approached her. “Maybe you could help me find my way?”
The officer blushed as he noticed her ample cleavage. Her pink-lilac skin stood out against her dark ‘business’ suit. She could nearly spill out of her top at any moment. “I cannot leave my post, but I can tell you where you need to go.” He looked back at the door he had guarded.
“Such a shame. I guess that will do.” She smirked. “I’m here to visit someone.” Lotus straightened her back. Her thighs pressed against each other when she stood tall like this, as straight and narrow as possible. Her eyes followed the guard’s every movement. Every step was another move into her trap.
The guard thought he may have seen more than he should have as she straightened. He hadn’t noticed the yellow glow that shone from around the pink in her eyes. “If you can tell me what floor, I’d gladly get the escalator for you.” He felt hot, his mind was lost in her allure.
She giggled. She hated this part. Lotus hated the notion of giggling. He stank, and she was forced to giggle. “Escalator? I’m not sure they make one large enough for a tower like this.”
“Er, elevator. Ma’am, I was. Ehm. I was distracted by your beauty.” He flustered as he spoke. His heart raced. “Oh?” She looked him over. He was right in front of her now. “That’s just what I’d hoped.” Lotus smiled. The sound of his gasp was more pleasing than she’d anticipated. Her tail had barely made a sound as it pierced under his ribcage. She twirled it around, inside his heart. “Guess mother was right. I am a heartbreaker.” A smirk formed from her lips as she siphoned his life away. She stepped over the body, and made sure her tail was cleaned off on his jacket. Her tail took the room card attached to his chest pocket. “See you later sweetie.” Her hips swayed as she sauntered toward the room he had guarded. Lotus swiped the room card and pushed the door open gently. The lights were dim, and she slide herself into the entryway. When the door closed behind her, she couldn’t remember why she’d come here. A man stood at the foot of one of the two beds in the room. He was tall enough that his head nearly touched the ceiling. Long straight silver hair went past his shoulders and a faint grey-blue light glowed in his eyes. Lotus felt a fear she had not felt in a long time, a fear that shook her to the core. The room felt like it was vibrating around her. She could hardly concentrate on thought. Panic filled her, and fear paralyzed her. His grey-blue gaze met hers and a chill washed over her. He took a single step toward her.********************Lotus snapped awake. Warmth of a late morning sun poured into her room, something she wasn’t used to. She rarely used her bed for anything that resembled sleep. The curtains were opened. Light filled the room. She knew something had happened, but couldn’t remember anything. Lotus knew something was there, in her memory. It was gone, like trying to remember a fleeting dream of the night before. A vibration came from her desk. Her phone blinked, over 100 missed alerts.
“You ordered me to let you rest.” Jaref’s voice creeped from the shadows of the room. “It has been two days, miss. I’ve kept things running for you.”
“Silver hair.” She whispered.
