Archie arrives at Pops and everything is just like any other day. He sits down. There's the sound of the bell.
He turns around and sees Betty enter, a smile on her face as she asks Pop for her and Veronica's normal breakfast orders to go. She hasn't seen him yet but he still tries to hide his grin behind his hand. Good for them.
She turns around and sees them sitting at a booth and comes over, she's trying to fix her hair, for once out of its ponytail, and it takes everything in him not to laugh. He's too busy looking at her to notice the bell go off for a second time.
His dad starts to move and Betty's face falls. He turns his head to see why but it suddenly feels like they're in slow motion. His dad pushes Betty just as the gun goes off.
Betty hits the floor hard and his dad’s on the ground. For a moment he doesn't know what happened but then blood starts pouring out of his dad and Betty still isn't moving. He can't tell if she's breathing.
Archie's suddenly standing, just staring at the gun. He feels like he can't move but then the man is pointing it at him and gesturing at him to get on his knees. He yells at them for money but Betty still isn't reacting.
He reaches into his pocket and grabs his wallet, throwing it at the man. He closes his eyes as he gets impossibly closer and there's a hand on his head, tugging at his hair. Archie's mouth is impossibly dry, the contact seems to last a lifetime before it's replaced by the cool metal of the gun. He doesn't know if he's relieved or so scared that it's come back around to feeling like nothing.
He hears Pop yell something about the cops and the man goes running.
It takes him what feels like an age to open his eyes. When he does he's met with the image of his dad's blood staining the floor and Betty slowly twitching back to life.
want to know what happens before this? or maybe what happens after, as it releases, hehe

“What?” Jugheads looks at him so quickly he wonders if his neck hurts. “Why?”
“Well…” He feels a little silly now he's asked it.
Jug takes him in then a slow smile spreads over his face. “Arch, are you worried I'm going to catch feelings?”
Arch is quick to shake his head, “Of course not, Jug.”
“I know I don't date normally but it's not like it's real or that I want it to be real. Betty's like a sister.” Jughead jokes.
Archie has so many questions but he's not sure what he's allowed to ask. He panics for a moment but remembers how many weird things they've talked about through the years. He never had to pick his words before, he shouldn't have to now. “Does that make me your brother?”
Okay that's– that wasn't what he meant to ask. Jughead's eyebrows fly up and then he smirks. “No.”
He could've done with some more clarification but it's Jug and he loves to be vague. “And the reason you don't normally date…”
“Well, Archie.” Jughead's almost laughing now, “People aren't interested.”
He nods, trying not to grin at his use of ‘people’ instead of ‘girls’, “And if they were?”
“Why are you asking?” He's not smiling now, his eyes intense on the side of Archie's slowly blushing face.
Finally, he turns to meet them. They're at a standstill now on an empty street not too far from his house. “I need to know.”
Archie corners Betty in the Blue and Gold, frowning as he closes the door, nerves written all over his face.
“Betty, I know this is really bad timing but,” Archie takes a deep breath. “How did you know you and Veronica were right for each other?”
She blinks, not having expected this conversation. She takes a seat on the edge of the desk and tries to come up with an answer, but she's not sure why he's asking. “Uh, well. I didn't, I suppose. I wanted to know her better and I wanted to kiss her while I did that. She felt right, she made me feel right. I don't know.”
Archie sighs, his shoulders hunching and she's assuming that's not what he wanted to hear. “How did you know you didn't like me like that? Did us knowing each other so long make you think there was something there when it was actually just a close friendship?”
Okay, now she's really confused. “No, I think it was the expectation that we'd get together by other people, our parents and friends, that made me confuse my feelings for theirs. But when I truly listened to myself it wasn't what I wanted or felt.”
He looked defeated again and she couldn't take it anymore. “Why are you asking, Arch?”
“I…” He looks agitated and lost. “I think I have feelings for someone but I don't know if it's real or just wishful thinking. It's the worst timing.”
She narrows her eyes, “It's not Veronica is it?”
It shocks a laugh out of him and she relaxes. “What? No!”
“Sorry, sorry,” she says, throwing her hands up in surrender and smiling. “She's so great I just assume everyone has a crush on her.”
He snorts. “No it's– it's on a boy.”
For a moment, he looks scared and she hates it. She sweeps him into a hug, “Oh, Arch. Thanks for telling me.”
He laughs into her shoulder, “Of course, Betts.”
She doesn't ask who he has a crush on. She's not sure she has to.

ik im late to the game but I made a lil edit w maisie peters' newish song vampire time for jughead x archie and betty x veronica i love them so much I hope you enjoy <3333 rb if you like??
“Now are you ready for the film!?” Jughead says, grinning as he leads them all in.
After they watch both films they take Jughead to Pops. Her original belief that this wasn't enough for him died the moment she saw the beam on his face. He wouldn't stop discussing his favourite parts of the film and what he would do differently and the camera angles.
They indulge him as best they can, listening and giving their opinions with smiles on all their faces.
After they've eaten half their meals, Archie coughs and grabs something from his bag. “I know you don't really want presents today–” Jughead groans and melodramatically throws his head back. Betty giggles at them, but Archie just talks louder over him. “–but I found this picture and thought you might like it, you know, for our room.”
Archie hands it to Jughead who smiles down at it and then into Archie's eyes. “Oh, Archie. This was a good day.”
“It was,” Archie says, smiling back at him.
Betty drums her fingers on the table, excited. “Let's see!”
They both lean forward to see it, smiles already on their faces. The moment Veronica sees it, however, she pales.
“Veronica? What's wrong?” Betty asks and she tries to shake it off.
Just as she's about to lie, she catches Jughead's eye and remembers what he said about people hiding things on his birthday, putting an act on. She can't do that to him. She sighs. “How is your investigation going? Into who killed Jason.”
Jughead and Betty looked at each other, confused. After a beat Jughead says, “Not great. After what Archie saw at the Blossoms about them sending your dad to jail we haven't found any proof your dad did anything. We also haven't found anything pointing to anyone else. We're at a standstill.”
Veronica looks down at her hands clasped around her drink. “Well I've just realised the missing piece.”
Betty and Jughead both lean forward unconsciously and, if it were under different circumstances, she would smile at them but now it sits in her stomach like lead.
“Back when the Twilight was shutting down, I saw my mom give a bag of cash to a Serpent I didn't recognise.” Veronica takes a deep breath, “Now I can place him. He's there.”
She points at the photo and they all stare at the face of FP Jones, smiling with two younger children, one of them with red hair and one of them with a slightly oversized beanie.
Betty and Veronica corner Archie at Pops. He stares at them wide eyed as they sit side by side across from him in the booth glancing at each other but not saying anything. “What’s up?”
Veronica sighs. “Archie, we need your help.”
His eyes ping pong between the two of them and, seeing it was serious, he puts his burger down. “Of course. Whatever you need.”
Betty smiles at him and, after a quick sweep to make sure no one was paying them any attention, slides her hand to the right until it reaches Veronica’s. She entwined their fingers, looking at her girlfriend for a moment just to see the matching smile on her face, before looking back at Archie. He looks confused but then his eyes go wide.
“Really?” He grins, his excitement sweet, if not a bit too attention-grabbing. “Congratulations! Good for you guys, but… what do you need help with? Looks like you figured it out without me.”
Veronica chuckles, “Well, Archiekins, that’s not what we need help with.”
Archie looks sad for them but it turns back to confusion when Betty trails off. Veronica decides to just rip the bandaid off. “We need you to pretend to date me, just in public, to keep our parents out of our business.”
His eyebrows fly up in shock, “You want me to do what!?”
“Of course, you could date Betty instead if that makes you more comfortable, but it would be easier on us both if you did with me instead.” Betty nodded at Veronica's words.
“This isn't… you can't be serious?”
“Deadly.” Veronica says.
Betty squeezed her hand, “Yeah, Archie. We know we're asking a lot, but… could you at least consider it?”
Slowly he nodded, “Okay. I'll think about it.”
They sat in silence for a moment as they ate their food. Then Archie starts trying to say something.
“Spit it out,” Veronica says, picking at her onion rings.
He sighs, “It's a big responsibility! I wanna talk to Jug but I don't want to out you.”
Betty laughs and waves her hand, “We'll tell the group as long as it stays between us. Right, V?”
She nods at the girl, feeling really happy they got together. That's her girlfriend. They're going to tell people. She tries not to let her excitement show. “Yeah.”
