Infernal Dukes: Jaqon Lord of Legal Paradoxes
This is a combination of the Dagon character (not the demon the devil) from Green Ronin’s Book of Hell and Dice Freaks Gates of Hell, but mostly this is my own idea.
Jaqon Lord of Legal Paradoxes
Jaqon is single handedly the weirdest Cosmic Being in the entire world, and that is saying a great deal. He was once a rising star in the politics of the Nine Hell when he attempted to declare his own provence independent from Asmodeus.....without any backing...entirely by himself... Why he thought this would work is unknown, but he did so, and of course Asmodeus sent a force of Pit Fiends to get ride of him. They were able to easily defeated Jaqon's forces, and then asked him "WTF were you thinking" and Jaqon responded by telling him that thought it was the only way to get the attention of the Lord of the Nine, thinking that audacity was the only want to get his approval. Asmodeus responded by making him his herald,
Thus his title was Jaqon, the least duke in the court of Asmodeus. That was his actual title, Least duke in the court of Asmodeus. In that capacity he traveled freely about Baator as the herald and messenger of Adramalech and Asmodeus, as Martinet and others do today.
Often summoned to the Prime Material Plane, Jaqon had a habit of trading more information than Asmodeus wished divulged, including hints as to the truenames of various other nobles and the preferences of various she-devils with regard to an arch devil winning one of their hands to be his consort. For this pandering, he is especially despised by all of the consorts and she-devils in the hells; none will aid him, work with him, or even speak civilly with him. Eventually Asmodeus choose to exile him as a reward to the consorts of Hell, but also since he gave too much information about Belial's forces, leading to a great defeat, upsetting the balance of power in favor of Levistus. So Asmodeus "rewarded" Jaqon by making him the cataloger of Hell's Laws. This lead to a paradox, as law is suppose to be about well...the Rule of Law and yet the Laws of the 9 Hell were contradictory, self serving and expected to be violated. Every other being who Asmodeus had assigned to this position eventually went mad trying to reconcile these systems. Jaqon however embraced the legal paradox, and in order to defy Asmodeus, he officially made his Alignment Chaotic Good. While simultaneously being Lawful Evil. He counts as both. He was able to use this same loophole to get himself appointed a Duke of Hell, in the Name of the Lord of the 9th (though he thinks this is Asmodeus himself).
Relationships: Jaqon is universally hated by....pretty much everybody for officially being Good. He has even go so far as to declare himself an ally of the Upper PLanes, and has actually started to sponsor his own paladin order, as he doesn't actually get that Paladins can only be lawful good. This order, called the "Infernal Knights" an organization of Good Adventurers who mostly try to fuck with other Devils with the aid of Infernal allies. Jaqon really is somebody who is being Chaotic Good for the tax benefits, and has no conception of how CHaos or good actually work, which is actually to his advantage as the Overlord would destroy him if he did.
Domain: Jaqon's strange and unusual realm really does demonstrate the legal paradoxes of a "good" creature who is actually evil. Jaqon is trying very hard to make his realm resemble the upper planes. However as he was never a fallen himself, he has no idea what the upper planes are like, nor how the Chaotic actually functions, and so the domain is full of strange arbitrary rules. The realm is pretty, in an "uncanny value" sort of way, and Jaqon seems to be under the impression that Chaotic means "brightly colored and whimsical" and so his infernal servants are required by law to be happy all the time, wear bright colors, and negative emotions are forbidden in his domain. Thus Shebim and Devils here are required to smile all the time and Jaqon maintains a strict brightly colored dress code to make them seem more "Chaotic". Jaqon, like all Devils, hates anything Chaotic, so he has set up all across is realm domains where devils can indulge in their lawful and evil behavior "illegally" for a small fee of course, which goes to his pockets personally. Jaqon even has a small group of Eladrin advisors who try to make sure his realm is properly allied with the upper realms. They do however have a tendency to "vanish" when traveling alone, as the Devils regularly slay them for kick. Because for all of his talk, Jaqon is a devil through and through, and his realm despite its seeming "cuteness" is nothing more than a facade with darkness underneath. Jaqon like all devils wants nothing more than to dominate and destroy, and his current "Redemption" is nothing more than a way to do this. He knows that he isn't taken seriously, but he uses this as a tool to advance his own goals, as nobody would suspect sweet silly Jaqon of being a threat. His domain thus is also a great recruiting ground for good adventurers to help him fight the "Demonic Hoards" and plenty flock to the banner. Jaqon's real goal however is to corrupt these individuals, he has read about Asmodeus fall and knows that when fighting the greatest evil, the temptation to use their tactics is all the stronger. Jaqon hopes to breed a new generation of adventurers, fanatics to the cause of "Good" and dedicated to destroying the demons. Over time he hopes to whisper to these adventurers that the greatest hindrance to fight the Demons is that the Lawful Evil Realms need to be united under a single rule, that can harness all of the Devils, Shebim, Div, Asuras and all other beings to a single goal, destroying the Abyss. He plans to have his bands assassinate the various other Dukes, Marques, Counts, Couturiers, Arch-Dukes, and Lords of the Nine until only he remains. And maybe after that, he could go send his adventurers against the forces of the Neutral Evil Realms, to prevent them from siding with the Demons. And maybe the Upper Planes, and the other Chaotic Realms as well, the possibilities are endless. If Jaqon has learned anything, its that dedicated adventurers can do anything if given the proper motivation. And Jaqon plans to give it. Let the others laugh, soon they will be fallen to the blade of a mighty adventurer, while he who has been supporting the adventurers all this time.
