The magic is literally a bandaid for Adachi’s issues. It’s been allowing him to have confidence because he knows that he can follow through. He knows and that surety is what he’s always needed. Anxiety is all about insecurity. And the more secure he is, the more he can work past those anxieties.
The problem?
A bandaid doesn’t solve a problem. A bandaid helps. A bandaid gives you time and safety. But a bandaid always needs to come off eventually.
Adachi knows that. But he hasn’t healed behind that bandaid. He’s still picking his cuts, still wrapped in his anxieties. And instead of working towards more healing when he realizes that... he rips it all off.
But he doesn’t rip off the bandaid. He rips off everything. He gives up because he doesn’t think he can heal. He thinks this is just his life and that he might as well give up the good things now, rather than later.
