A bit lopsided and more brown than gold, but something simple and festive as December has so quickly approached.
Following the awesome Lindsey Bugbee AKA the postman’s knock’s How to Draw Lace tutorial, spent a couple hours creating this custom envelope for my sister’s birthday note back in October. Upon receiving the envelope, she at first thought I bought it, and wondered how it was so customized to a 25-year-old little sister haha. Best compliment ever.
White ink is Dr. Ph. Martin’s Bleed Proof White. It’s thick so mix a bit of water into it and test out the best consistency for your nib.
And this, explains how I’ve developed a passion for calligraphy, art, surfing, tennis, swimming, running, Ashtanga yoga, cooking, being in nature, traveling, and so much more.
Using the Heartwell font introduced by Teela Cunningham’s Skillshare course, Waterbrush Lettering Essentials, and my art deco font.
Using a cheap small round brush resulted in unclean letters, as the bristles would unevenly start falling out or come loose. Teela recommends using Aquash Water Brushes, which I just bought and agree they make for cleaner lettering, but only come in one size. Need to invest in nicer 0, 00, and 000 sized round brushes for smaller script.
To-do Calligraphy & Art Projects
Finish (the amazing) Connie Chen’s Bettering Our Lettering Online Course by the first week of December. I would totally recommend this course for building a solid foundation for Engrosser’s Script.
No $ for Christmas presents so planning to send out as many handmade holiday cards as I can with brush lettering and dip ink calligraphy.
Improve on photoshop and illustrator skills for creating digital designs for wedding calligraphy.
Watercolor! Some trees, leaves, houses and shit. My friend Anita wants me to paint some nice trees we saw in a magazine (image below) for her dining room lol. Looking forward to testing this out.
Make Jano Caligraphy more legit - semi-urgent steps are incorporate the business and create a logo. Order a cute embossed stamp from that logo.
Draw more with oblique/straight nib pen, such as the Bird + Koi from this blog post, and practice/incorporate flourishing.
