DAY 4 of JamWeek25: Tranquility...
Dancing beneath the flooboards~
Not exactly sure if the basements built under the tavern or to the side actually but uhmmm pretty light slipping through the cracks anyone :''D
scenario braindump below as per usual:
Some time after they started their intimacy but were still tip toeing around their emotions, I imagine a wedding happens.
Someone from the tavern, either one of the cooks or a maid, got married and held their feast at the tavern after Sam fondly insisted he took care of them.
So the feast was held at the tavern late into the evening. John was aware of the occasion and enjoyed himself beneath the floorboards, happy enough to hear the bustle of life above him. Plus the wine was good and the music was decent. So he put his work aside and enjoyed the evening, drinking and leisurely reading.
Occasionally he could hear Sam's voice over all the chatter. He didn't try to listen in at first but he found it harder and harder to ignore his voice. He overheard several conversations. A grateful thank yous from the couple and their family, some short conversations of business, and an elderly voice offering Sam a prospect of marriage.
John closes his book shut and moves away to another corner, bringing his cup and vase of wine with him. He finds himself pacing back and forth, more puzzled by how he reacted than anything else.
He nearly jumped when the door to the basement opened and Sam came through. John just stared at him from across the room, still as a startled deer, before Sam arched his eyebrow questioningly at him.
They eased into a light conversation as Sam had came down to bring him some extra treats and food from the feast. When Sam settled down on the table instead of returning to the festivities, John inquires his decision. Sam shrugged and simply says he needed to get away from the bustle for a moment.
John pokes at him for being too serious all the time and not knowing how to let loose and have fun on occasions which lead to a light playful bicker between them.
A jaunty tune from the musicians above stopped them mid-jab and John suggests a truce and an offer of a dance. Sam chuckles at his joke but when he realized John was being serious he tried a different tactic. Excuses.
But John wasn't having any of his lies and was adamant on not having Sam miss the merriment. He knows Sam knew how to dance simple enough. Sara told him, along with every embarrassing moment from his childhood that he could bring up and tease him with in the right time.
But that time wasn't tonight. Tonight all he wanted to enjoy the whatever stolen moment existed below the floor boards with light and music seeping through the cracks.
"Come on. Entertain me for a bit and I swear I'll leave you alone."
Sam sighs but surrenders to his whims. More like begging. He awkwardly tried to figure out their positions for just a second before John flushes against him, hand looped under his shoulder to grasp his other, taking his other hand gently in his warm ones.
And just like that they fit perfectly like a puzzle, winding around the room in a waltz. John mistakes the warmth blooming deep in the core for all the wine he's drunk, but Sam recognizes his. He knows it's love for the odd, chatty noblemen. He's long gave up fighting against it. But he's never tried embracing it...
What better time to than now, he decides.
I'm so normal about this. I had to draw them luminating from each other's presence or I was gonna go insane from it rotting my brains out!
