John learned quickly on the first day that there was an extreme rivalry between departments. The science, history, and other departments tried to stay out of it, although the science department leaned toward Johnâs. The real war was between the English and Math department. He tried to stay out of it, to let the rest of the math department make fools of themselves. John wanted to be above it all and focus more on his work. He was a new teacher, both to the school and in general, and he just wanted to keep his head down and keep the peace.
Sure, he knew it was an age old tense relationship, but he didnât think that anyone would ever take it this far. They were worse than the teenagers that they were instructing, if he did say so himself. Over dramatic...
Oh, and speaking of dramatics, the looks he got at the lunch period for just sitting wherever there was an opening. His department looks scandalized, the other departments looked like they couldnât decide whether to laugh or be concerned, and the English department gave him he dirtiest looks heâd ever been on the recieving end of and then pointedly ignored him.
  Excuse me for existing...
So he ignored them back and dragged out his kindle to read whatever it was he bought the night before. Why he thought it would be a good idea to pick a book while he was half asleep and just before his first day was a mystery, but it gave him something to do while he ate silently.
In the end, he wound up eating half of his lunch, tossing the rest, and taking his pad with him to read in his room.
