I'm rewatching some doctor who and the whole 'robots repairing themselves with human parts' (in The girl in the fireplace and deep breath) is a concept I can really get behind and simply isn't used anywhere near enough in Sci fi and or horror just because of the creepiness/uncanny Valley stuff.
It could also work really well in a frankenstein homage/influenced work (beyond just a simple retelling) as it does in resurectionist by James McGee (the villain/antagonist is a surgeon who was held in bedlam because of the experiments he carried out on wounded soldiers in the peninsula war, attempting a very basic form of transplant surgery).
