SHOW PREVIEW: HONNE

James Hatcher and Andy Clutterbuck make up the electronic duo HONNE. The two English musicians write, record, and produce all their music. HONNE formed their act in 2014, and aim for greater projects this August when their full album, Love Me/Love Me Not, is released. The new singles from Love Me/Love Me Not have an instant appeal with their catchy melodies and smooth beats, promising that this album will be great for long summer nights and car rides with friends.

HONNE is now trying to incorporate more hip-hop into their music so it can be listened to all day rather than just at night. HONNE partnered with the soul/hip-hop artist Tom Misch on their single “Me & You,” which has over 3 million views on YouTube. Misch plays jazz guitar on the single, giving the song an instant upbeat vibe.

HONNE sings, “It’s just me and you / Now we’re taking in the view / We can spend the rest of our days / Way up here, just me and you.” “Me and You” is one of their more romantic songs on the album so far, and is leaning towards a more R&B sound.

The track listings for HONNE’s forthcoming album have symmetrical black and white circles next to all of their titles, showing the contrast between good and bad themes in their music. HONNE want to show the importance of opposite moods in art, and that they can’t live without each other in music.

Their single “Sometimes” talks more about fear and doubts. HONNE sings, “Sometimes I’m the worst person / I only know how to hurt / Sometimes I’m scared of loving / And I don’t know what you’re worth.”

HONNE addresses loss in this single, exploring how couples often take many things for granted in a relationship, causing distance between us and the ones we love. HONNE balances this theme of loss with upbeat singles such as “Me & You,” “Day One,” and “I Got You” that will inspire you to fall in love.
