Right after Bella and Edward get back from Italy, Jacob imprints on Edward. Boom and he literally needs to be near Edward. The pack and the Cullens decide to keep it a secret from Bella so she doesn't feel betrayed or something like that. They set up these secret little meet-ups so Jacob can get close enough to Edward to calm his wolf down and things like that.

Edward’s not thrilled about it at all—he’s still all in on Bella, feels guilty, hates the idea—but he goes along with it as long as Bella stays clueless and doesn’t get worried or hurt.

Meanwhile, Jacob’s full-on trying to get edwards heart: flirting , teasing, touching, making dirty jokes, basically doing everything to get under Edward’s skin (and into his pants lol). Edward’s like, “this kid’s just being annoying, it’s one-sided imprint crap, he doesn’t actually mean anything to me, I’m just tolerating this for Bella’s sake.”

Until… Edward starts noticing weird stuff. Every time someone else touches Jacob (a hug from a pack member, a pat on the back, whatever), Edward gets this irrational spike of anger/possessiveness. And when Jacob’s away for too long? Edward feels this empty, restless ache he can’t explain—like something’s missing. He’s moody, distracted, keeps glancing toward La Push without realizing it.

Cue the slow, painful realization: oh shit… maybe this imprint isn’t as one-sided as I thought.
