Six months in and the airbrushing on my NCR saddle pad is holding up well to regular use. REALLY happy with how this came out.
And I keep hoping that, one day, we'll encounter someone out in the wild who actually knows what it is, lol. On that day, I know I'll have an instant friend! Fallout AND horses AND supporting the NCR? Perfect friend litmus test.

Long live the NCR!
There it is! In all its fully painted glory! The Ranger Sequoia!
(Used my lunch hour to finish up the hand-painting work. I'll give it a final coat of satin clearcoat tonight.)
After letting it marinate a few days and experimenting with different placement, I finally settled on two flowers. Glued everything down and trimmed all the excess tonight. My new summer hat is now complete!

Did the full setup tonight, along with a shakedown test of the fog and audio systems. We are ready to go for the big night on Friday!
Only thing I didn't get finished in time was the Ghoul gravemarker & radaway bags. I just didn't have time to get it made this year. But I'll keep it in the back pocket for next year.

Just received two of these NCR Ranger badges, made by an artisan I found on IG!
They're modeled after the Texas Ranger stars and hand cast in bronze. He sells them with a pin back, but I had him make these two special without it so I can solder on my own mounting hardware and use them as rosettes on a bridle for Sierra. They're really the perfect size, too!
I did some research on old Civil War cavalry bridles to see how their rosettes (when they were used at all) were attached and I think I have a solid plan. Now I just gotta measure and order the hardware, then solder it on. The way I'm planning to make it, I should be able to transfer it between bridles easily, too.
I need a summer hat. I love my usual leather hat. And I've been wearing it daily for almost 15 years now. But I kinda wanted something a little lighter weight for the Mojave Desert summer here.
Okay, well... maybe I don't need one. Maybe I just saw all the cool hats that people were wearing at Mule Days and kinda wanted one myself.
And, honestly, it would be nice to have a less sweaty hat for really hot days here in the desert.
So, I bought this plain straw hat at Mule Days and I'm making a hatband and other decoration for it.
I used a spare saddle string for the hatband and recycled a bear concho that I didn't end up using for my NCR Ranger cosplay to make the base hatband. I also added on a set of braided horsehair stampede strings for high wind days.
Then I ordered some silk California Poppy flower springs. And I've tucked them into the hatband behind the concho, along with a little leaf bit from them. And then stuck a turkey feather behind it. I haven't trimmed the stems yet on the flowers or tacked down the band, but will once I get everything finalized.
And I haven't glued it down yet, because... well... I'm not 100% sure yet... so... seeking opinions?
What do we think?
Bear in mind, I have absolutely no problem with ostentatious hats. I love them, in fact! So I'm not worried it's too much. But is it unbalanced? Is it awkward looking? I dunno.
Gonna try my hand at learning a new skill!
Bought a mohair cinch making kit. Came with everything but a loom.
So, all I gotta do is build a quick loom frame, which shouldn't be too hard with some scrap wood I have in the garage. Then I can work on learning the knots. It looks fairly straightforward. And it comes with both printed instructions and a dvd with video instructions. So, I think I can figure it out.
It also comes with instructions for doing mohair breast collars, too. So, if I am successful at the cinch, I'll order more supplies to do one of those next.
