• v o g u e • 70s Vogue is one of the magazines most groundbreaking decades during its history. Mrs Vreeland would leave as Editor in Chief in 1971 as Grace Mirabella would take her place, with it ushering in a new attitude and aesthetic. The world was changing, women were taking to the work force, American designers were dabbling in sports influenced ways of dressing, and the world was looking to America for inspiration! Grace understood this perfectly, leading to US Vogue becoming one of the biggest Fashion Magazines in the world, by making it more relatable and featuring clothes that were practical in everyday life ( although Mrs Vreeland did an outstanding job, America was changing and glamour was becoming irrelevant and un relatable to the majority of American Women ). From Boho to Disco, Grace and her team produced some of the most incredible images ever! Photographed by legends like Helmut Newton, Arthur Elgort, Chris Von Wangeheim, Demarchelier, Francesco Scuvallo, and of course Avedon and Penn, among many more. These images were also made possible by the great fashion editors, those like Jade Hobson and Polly Mellon, who was one of US Vogues best and most beloved. 70s Vogue also gave us some of the, now, most beloved Cover Girls of all time, Patti Hansen, Rosie Vella, Renee Russo, Beverly Johnson ( who became US Vogues first Black Cover Girl in 1974 ), Kim Alexis and of course Lauren Hutton ( who holds the record for scoring the most covers ). The images during this period are so ahead of their time, way before digital, it was really an art form and makes me yearn for that time again, of magic and wonderous creativity and fabulosity! Over the next week I’ll be sharing some of my favourite images from Vogue of the 70s, but for now, here are some of the best covers from the decade of Sexual Revolution, Boho, Disco and the Jet Set! #vogue125 #vogue#gracemirabella #pollymellon#jadehobson#richardavedon#irvingpenn#fracescoscavullo #arthurelgort#chrisvonwangenheim #blogger#the_bearded_blogger_ #the_bearded_blogger_modelmondays
