why did you choose to kill Asphodelpaw specifically and not any of the other apprentices? not saying that any of them deserved to die more, but I think it's really interesting that you decided to kill any of the apprentices at all, and deciding who to kill must've been really difficult

There's a lot I can't say because of spoiler reasons. But do believe that I tried very hard to get any other character to work, and they wouldn't. It's like a story is a gear machine, or a Rube Goldberg... and all the characters are cogs in it. Asphodelpaw was the only cog that fit into that place. I loved drawing her, I loved her character, I loved writing her, but there wasn't another option within this story's narrative.

And yes, once I knew the whole scope of the story, I knew Asphodelpaw was going to be killed by Rainhaze. I actually have a bit of a flashbulb memory - I think it was September or October of 2022, when I was walking home and the pieces just clicked together in my mind. I felt so evil.

I know that naming the Lost Clans this was probably unintentional, but I personally like the interpretation that these names denote Barrenclan's cycle and their eventual release from it

Ahh that's fun! I pretty much just wanted to give all four Clans flower/plant names, but I really like this take on it.

also another question — who is the founder/is there a founder of barrenclan/roseclan?

Haha, no I don't. They are not important to the story in the slightest, and I've got way too much to work on otherwise to design three more leaders. I could give em names, though, and maybe if someone reminds me in the future I'll draw them.
