Travis was a kid, just like all the girls were, and in the end they objectified and brutalized and tormented him regardless, and that is one of the central themes of Yellowjackets: defining ever-shifting rules that identify who is Other or Chosen and thus an acceptable target for violence or cruelty or dehumanization.

Jackie may have died first (discounting Laura Lee), but through the events of Doomcoming Travis was the first one truly Othered, and in the end, he died functionally alone at the hands of someone he trusted to not hurt him again in all the myriad horrific ways she had already hurt him in the past. His "suicide" was written off by his fellow survivors as an unremarkable, uninteresting bookend to a life they all knew had been otherwise hallmarked by suffering, addiction, and the deaths of all those closest to him, often at their own hands! Natalie was the only one who even remotely gave a shit about him in the end, and it is not a coincidence to me from a narrative standpoint that when Travis died, Natalie followed in short order.

Work Summary:

Lucy doesn’t curse. Rose hadn’t either. I need everyone dismissing/dunking on Shaunahat enjoyers because Mel said she "[...] never really [loved Shauna]" in the adult timeline to read this and internalize it. Same for people who have been clinging to the (quite frankly OUTRAGEOUSLY uncharitable) interpretation that Shauna doesn't really care about Mel!

Of course when Mel looks back on this relationship she doesn't call it love. The end is going to be so fucking ugly that she literally fakes her own suicide. Of course Shauna asks if it was love- it's the closest to love she's ever been since Jackie and the baby died, and she hasn't emotionally matured a day past seventeen.
