Congratulations to Jack Dodge and Carson McCalley on winning season 37 of the Amazing Race. They will share the one million dollar prize. The duo are gay and best friends, but not boyfriends.
Jack and Carson were dubbed The Gamers on the show because of their love of Dungeons and Dragons. Although they were perceived by other teams as being physically weak, their ability to work together was key to their success - plus their positive attitude. They came in first place in 5 of the 12 episodes.
The duo also prepped for the show by going to couples therapy to help them better understand each other while under pressure.
“I think it was the number one thing that helped us. But a lot of that is about actually taking expectations off [ourselves]. We knew we're capable of winning, but we also are capable of going home first.”
At the end of their around-the-world journey, Jack said,
“You know, we slay dragons together, we are nerds. We go on these adventures all the time, in our heads. And to be able to do it in real life is unreal…. I cannot imagine a more perfect part of our story. When we were young we were confused, closeted, little queer weirdos. And now I think we understand each other and ourselves.
Carson added:
“We became the heroes we always imagined ourselves to be.”
(Jack and Carson are both in relationships with other men: Carson’s partner is Alex and Jack is dating Michael.)
