I was the defense attorney for Emmett Forrest from Legally Blonde. The accuser was Izzy Hand from Our Flag Means Death and he was accusing my client of tax fraud.
I get that there is a deeper level to Ed and Izzy's relationship of a fucked up toxic love, but love nonetheless. However, there are certain ways that izzy stans are interpreting scenes from s1 that I have a really hard time agreeing with.
Not saying that they are wrong or that izzy is a "bad" character, cause he's actually so interesting and well written. But I have a really hard time seeing Ed talk about the things he likes and is excited about (Stede's trinkets, clouds in the sky and what that could mean weather wise, the whole singing thing) only to be shut down. As an ADHD person who has had very similar experiences, knowing how much that hurts, I don't think I will ever be able to interpret those scenes under the lens that izzy stans enjoy. Honestly I wish I could, but in my book he has a lot more shit to make up for before I can say "he's a dick but he's our dick"
I especially struggle to see that scene from e10 as Izzy is telling Ed that their professional relationship can continue but that their personal relationship is over. To me that conversation reads a lot more threatening, particularly when it's coming from someone who has expressed over and over again all season that he only wants to see a certain part of Ed, and thinks other parts of him are pathetic.

Listen, I hate Ed. I have hated Ed this entire season. For the amount of pain and suffering he had caused I would have assumed someone would have to talk about it. For a show that really stresses communication the lack of addressing Ed's manipulation and abuse is insane to me. I have been waiting patiently for some sort of redemption.
Instead, we somehow ended up at Izzy apologizing to Ed? Of course Ed and Izzy needed to talk, and I think Izzys apology was completely correct. My problem is that Izzy, who has had such amazing growth this season, is using his finale words to pardon Ed from all the shit he's done. Not once will Ed ever have to face the fact that he tortured and abused the man that cared for him FOR YEARS.
I also want to make it clear that if Izzy had apologized anywhere other than his death bed I would have been fine with it. Having his last words dedicated to making Ed Feel better does not sit well with me.

as much as i'm upset about izzy dying cause i think he was a great character, i do really think it fits. i just wish we had more time to explore that whole season. two more episodes would've really helped, but that story was meant to settle like that, at least for now, and i can feel that
