gen ed depends from school to school but no you would not have to take music in that case but you'll likely need some form of 'arts'. for example my major is history and secondary ed but I have to take some math, some science, a language for a bit, and I am doing music but it can be filled other ways. this is alongside major requirements too. in some schools you start only doing gen ed your first couple years and later do your major stuff but for me it just all has to be done by graduation
But.... why. You had to do that shit in high school, university is about specialisation.
Here is Aus you only do subjects related to your course, or subjects that interest you that you choose as electives.
It blows my mind that you still have to like, do maths or something if you’re doing an Art History degree
Hell, even in the last two years of high school you don’t have any mandatory units except for English
