thWIP Thursday
I’ve been tagged by lovely moots the last week and a half; thank you so much - life got a bit wobbly but I’m back!
If you read If You Ever Did Believe, I’m cooking a Part 4 for you (surprise!!) - and it’s just over halfway done!
Because I feel like these blorbos deserved a wedding of their own 🥹
For just under a year, Tav has woken each morning entwined with Gale; legs tangled, hands reaching to pull one closer to the other, and kisses — long and languid —that inevitably lead to soft, sleep-soaked moans.
But, this morning is different.
This morning the space beside her is cool and has been for hours. It doesn't stop her, however, from sliding her hand across the sheets, searching for a trace of his warmth. It's futile; Gale departed in the early hours. She could have asked him to stay; knows he would have slid right back into bed beside her and held her until the morning light woke them.
It is her own fault that she wakes alone. Tav is the one who insisted on tradition. Tav is the one who insisted that she would be fine sleeping alone; she wasn't, she had to mix a small sleeping draught just after he left. Tav is the one who insisted they wait months before making solid plans to marry. Under the guise of wanting to feel settled in Waterdeep, though in truth it had more to do with the ugly thought that Gale might 'come to his senses' once the novelty had worn off.
"You tossed and turned all night." Tara chastises her from where she is unfurling at the end of the bed. The tressym had, despite being told it was unwarranted, maintained a vigil over her overnight — and had fallen asleep long before Tav — in the event that Gale decided to sneak back into his own home and have the gall to sleep beside his bride-to-be the night before their wedding.
"Good morning, Tara." Tav murmurs as she slowly moves to sit up. Her stomach roils in protest and her heart skips despite the care she takes in her movements; she can no longer determine the difference between nervous or excited energy. The last few days they have merged as one.
"You look terrible." The tressym yawns and stretches, before padding up the length of the bed and settling on Tav's thighs.
"Like you said, I tossed and turned all night." Tav pulls her braid loose, untangling it as Tara looks her over with an assessing, disapproving eye.
