International Women’s Day
Yes, that's right, today is the International Women's Day!! You can now show your respect, appreciation and love towards women's achievements. This year's IWD theme is #BeBoldForChange.
You may ask 'What does this mean?'. Well, did you know that gender gap (average difference between a man's and a woman's salaries) won't close entirely until 2186? It's too long to wait. So we need to make changes instantly!
But now, let's talk about women who changed our world!
Marie Skłodowska-Curie was the first woman to receive the Nobel Prize and the first person to win the Nobel Prize for two separate categories! Amazing! Her first award was for Physics and the second Nobel prize was for Chemistry.
Coco Chanel was French fashion designer. Her ideas were revolutionary and she defined feminine style.
Mother Teresa – who doesn't know her? She devoted her life to the service of the poor and dispossessed. She personally cared for thousands of sick and dying people in Calcutta, she is an icon. And also, she was awarded the Nobel Peace prize!
Queen Elizabeth II – She ascended to the British throne in 1952 and officially has become the longest serving British monarch.
Anne Frank – Her diary is one of the most widely read books in the world! She was already mature at the age of 13 and always believed people are good and kind.
J.K. Rowling and her phenomenal Harry Potter series. She wrote the first book as a single mother, struggling to make ends meet, but her writing led to her great success.
There are more and more amazing women in the world. Not only famous ones, but our moms, teachers, doctors etc. We are all surrounded by incredible women.
So hey, let's be thankful!
