IwaGai is such a fun AU because it asks SO many questions. What is Gai like in another village? Under a different kage? A different culture? Was he able to find an eternal rival? How are he and his papa treated in another village where physical strength seems to be praised on the level as ninjutsu. Would he have the opportunity to be just as strong as he is in Konoha? Stronger?! There are a lot of benefits training in a higher altitude can give you and Iwa is located in the mountains.

On Kakashi's part, it's just as interesting! Kakashi was in ANBU. he fought in in the third ninja war, he was trained to kill enemy ninjas since he was 5 years old. He's one of Konoha's most powerful and cut throat ninjas and he does not hesitate in removing his target. And without someone constantly watching his back and bringing light in the world and fighting for his best interest, where would he be?

So one has to ask, how did they meet and not kill each other right away? What did Gai do that managed to get through Kakashi's shell?! How do they make it work when they're so far apart? Will he convince Gai to betray his nation and defect to Konoha? Could it somehow reverse and Gai might convince Kakashi to join him in Iwa? Do they both leave and become missing nin together?!

He used to think it was because Kakashi didn't feel safe, but he realized that wasn't it when Kakashi started napping with his head on his shoulders.

Kakashi knows when he's safe and protected. He knows when someone is there that won't let him get injured.

He still doesn't sleep.

So you can imagin how pissed he is when him and Kakashi end up running into that Iwa Shinobi Jerk gai and having to work with him on a mission because their target has an Iwa citizen that Gai is there to save

And Kakashi sleeps.

He sleeps tucked away in Gai's arms, his head hidden in the other shinobi's chest.

He sleeps for hours.

And Tenzou doesn't understand because he knows Kakashi feels safe with him.

Kakashi has made that clear time and time again

So why does he sleep better with an enemy shinobi?

He doesn't realize until years later when he finally asks Kakashi and actually gets an answer.

"It's not about feeling safe." Kakashi whisperes as he looks up at the sky while Naruto sleeps beside them "i don't sleep alone because of the nightmares, but when i'm with Gai...it's like they can't get to me. Like something is stopping them from interupting my dreams."

Tenzou hates it, he loaths how Gai makes his Senpai feel, but he understands. He has nightmares of his own and he knows Kakashi's life has been one nightmare after another in many ways.

So he just resolves himself to being glad that at least someone can keep those nightmares away.

He let go of the blade, letting it drop into the river below.

Gai blinked when he heard a splash but remained still. He did not even react when slow, wet footsteps made their way towards him.

Gai: when the fuck did you get here?

Kakashi: just now

Gai: past all the anbu guarding the village?

Kakashi: i told you they were subpar. So...sex?

Kakashi is such a dick XD these poor bastards really think they've got him. They're going to catch Kakashi Hatake this time, they know it.

And they're mighty pissed when Gai opens his window an hour later and is just like "you do know he left already right? Like...did none of you see him? Damn he's right...you really are subpar..."

Lee is beyond excited. He's looking forward to meeting the baby and teaching them all about tainitsu just like Gai Sensei taught him

Tenten is more down to earth. She knows the chances of them meeting the baby are low and that Kakashi's probably in a lot of trouble with the higher ups in his village. She also realizes that if people in Iwa catch wind of this Gai Sensei could be in a lot of trouble as well.

Neji is focused on Gai. He's unconcerned with hiw the village might feel about this all, and he doesn't much care about the baby itself, but he does care how his sensei is handling this all and it upsets him when he realizes that Gai isn't handling it well at all.

Running into IwaGai during one of his missions and trying his best to keep his guards up, but Gai knows immidiatly that something is wrong.
