Took this photo around 1am which is why it looks like crud, but hey, it fit the book so oh well. 4.5 stars. I read this for a class and I’m, again, surprised at how much I actually enjoyed it. I now want to read more of Murakami’s works. This novel was stunning, to say the least. The setting of Tokyo in the early hours of the morning (12-7am) was extremely interesting. It gave the book the surreal, dream like quality. The story itself was fascinating and creepy. I loved seeing all of the characters connect even when they were unaware of the connection. I thought the characters were also fascinating, even if entirely mundane sometimes. I took half a star off because the ending felt a bit lackluster compared to the rest of the story which was a bit disappointing. HOWEVER, I think that the ending was very much written that way deliberately. The whole story is unsettling and the ending adds to the feeling. I just personally was hoping for something else and my ratings reflect my response to the story as well as the story itself so…Overall, though, a phenomenal book. I'm up at the Wyoming's Visitor's Center that they have on the interstate highways throughout the state. That is I-90 or Interstate 90 and it runs across the entire northern tier of the USA from Boston in the East to Seattle in the West, Non-Stop. I'm looking to the southwest toward downtown Sheridan, and the mountains shrouded in a broken blanket of clouds.
