What: Truthfully, this is not something I would like to go through again. At least for me, the main problem with this was not being able to talk about an issue of which I truly cared for. Its not that I don’t care for Gender Diversity in STEM fields, is just not something I wanted to write about, let alone research. So for me the hard part about this assignment was actually putting in the effort to do all this. Other than that, I do enjoy the fact that I now have Primary Research and a general essence of how to write a research paper under my belt. I know in the future, when I write about something that might be a full on interest of mine, I wont have a difficult time as I have already something like it before and therefore have a sort of outline to use towards writing.

So What: Professionally this has helped me grow as I have now gained experience into the world of which professionals call “Research”. In the future, I really don’t know how much I would use this type of writing in my everyday life, and as a matter of fact, I actually changed majors while I was still writing this paper. So I am now entering the Economics fields, there, I hope to end up becoming a part of a hedge fund, so I can have the money work for me instead of me work for the money. Moving from this point, I do not believe I will be doing much writing when I’m lounging around in my yacht as I keep flipping over investments. But if I had stayed as an Engineering Major, I feel this skill would be great to have as you are constantly trying to create new things and better old things, for this to happen, one must research on what needs to be done. In addition, if you would like to have support from other professionals as yourself and even some collegiate funding, it would be a good idea to present a research paper to both parties.

Now What: The whole purpose of this assignment was to bring light the levels of diversity in our fields. Most of us, initially, had to already of had such an idea of these levels. For example, I already knew there were very low levels of females involving in STEM careers, why? Well because you can just tell by your Freshmen orientation, the ratio of males to females at this thing was crazy, it was like 1 girl to 6 guys, THAT’S INSANE. So that’s initially why I picked gender diversity instead of racial diversity. With the research I know have under my belt, I can tell you that the problem simply originates from social constructs we have built over time, and the problem itself is fixing itself each year, numbers are rising of female involvement in these career paths, not as much as some might like, but they are still growing. SO think that’s the NOW WHAT, now we sit and wait for these numbers to grow and add on to this flame that is women joining STEM in order to create a more gender diverse world, which in turn will create better ideas for all of us to use.
