wtf no, I’m not offended, it is a ridiculous thing to say and there is very little thought behind it. This isn’t about making a mistake, getting correct on the terminology and accept and move on with it. This is about “I was raised this way and it is the only real way and I want to have the freedom to say and do things that I know hurt other people because of my upbriging”.
Like I’m sorry he has no grasp of the history of some words and can’t accept that you can’t call a lesbian a dyke and “not mean it in a negative way” while the word itself was created for a degatory purpose.
When I was five my mom explained to me you shouldn’t say some equivalent of Gypsy and I did grasp it? But he, a grown ass man, wants to discuss why he wants to continue using (the equivalent of) dyke or words like “homo” in front of me, words which are used here on a daily basis for insults and nothing more?
What‘s the big deal, nobody is expected to be perfect, but discussion why one should be allowed to use a foul word and keep saying it? Please.
