Peter Parker was the worst boyfriend in the world.
Thatās what he kept telling himself, and itās what he kept repeating to Mr. Stark over and over and over again earlier that day. His mentor reassured him at least a dozen times that he wasnāt the worst boyfriend, that all he had to do was ask Pepper and she would give him an endless list of all the things Tony had screwed up throughout the years. But that didnāt really help him feel better.
After Mr. Stark came over he had called Aunt May, who arrived back home not long after and did her best to calm the panicking Peter she had been immediately met with. A few minutes passed as she put away the groceries, and finally she was forced to ask what exactly it was that he was in a frenzy about.
āI forgot MJās birthday!ā Is how Peter answered, fighting the impulse he had to smack himself in the face.
For most of the time, it was May and Mr. Stark arguing and Peter pacing silently off to the side. Mr. Starkās suggestions were too big and probably not possible, and May was using most of her energy turning them down by saying stuff likeĀ āwhy would anyone want a hundred foot tall stuffed animal? what would you even do with that?ā and then he would shout back thatĀ āitās the thought that counts!ā
And then Peter finally interrupted them. While the bickering adults had gotten nowhere, miraculously he had come up with some ideas and now needed help pulling it all off.Ā
A few hours later, it was all finished. May helped decorate and Mr. Stark had teamed up with FRIDAY to track down the presents and cake ( Peter had told him it only needed to be a small one but of course, Tony Stark came back with a sheet cake almost too big to fit on the counter ).
Peter thanked the two of them over and over again, trying to breathe and whipping out his phone to text MJ:
{ hey are you free?? can you come over? }
Once he hit send he set his phone down next to the wrapped presents and let out a relieved sigh. May said she would go hang out with a friend for the night and ushered Mr. Stark out the door ( he managed to shout outĀ āmake sure you use protection!ā before the door closed all the way, and then Peter heard May sayĀ āoh my god!ā in that tone of voice Peter knew all too well ).
And then all that was left to do was wait.
