Supposedly, this was a more definitive mix done at Westlake studios in mid-'87, and would have been closer to what a final version of the song for the album would've been like. Once the song was cut from the album, it was revisited by Bill Bottrell in 1988, resulting in the more renown version that was released on the Special Edition of Bad in 2001, The Ultimate Collection, and Bad 25 in 2012. If that's the case, in a way I'm glad this didn't end up on the album, bc while the new instrumentation and whistle sound effects are interesting, I don't prefer them. The 'late '88 version we do know feels like a happy marriage between the funky, very early '86 version and this more Western take.
