grocery stores were amazing. they were big enough that it was hard for anyone to be noticed, and if you went at the right time, it was likely that no one would even remember that you were there, or that you pocketed a decent size bag of cheese balls or put a box of hot pockets in your backpack, along with a bottle of diet coke. it was perfect. nine moved around the aisles with what was perhaps a deserved confidence, but it faltered when he noticed her. she was looking at him, seeing him. he didn’t want to be seen.
he stared back for a moment too long, shit, before averting his gaze. she must have seen him take something. he rounded on his heel, moving quickly away from her. however his brain has latched onto something, the glint of gold around her neck that seemed familiar. he couldn’t help but glance back over his shoulder to see it again.
