i cant find the post rn but i saw this post about how people who are in fandoms for "trash" shows that have WILDLY varying quality and not super deep themes (see: supernatural, the mcu, etc) they scavenge for interesting bits and leave the rest... but when they switch fandoms to like, one where the creator is Absolutely saying something here and there are actual themes, they STILL scavenge for parts when its not really... necessary or warranted. and it kinda sucks
and i was kinda afraid to say but i think a lot of danganronpa fans treat the series as that kind of "trash" content where you gotta scavenge for parts. when it.... really isnt that? like its not High Art but there is absolutely a Point to the games and there Is something that the games are critiquing-- even v3, which i think is the weakest one in terms of actual themeing and critique
these games are Saying Something and a weird majority of the fans treat it like "oh well its trash but im here for the interesting parts" or "im just into [insert ship here] idc about the rest!!!" just bc its not perfect or its not dark enough, or doesnt portray things like amnesia as realistically as possible. i agree that a more realistic/darker spin on things would be interesting to see, but the series itself has a very specific and *intentional* tone that at times disregards realism in order to tell a more interesting, evocative, and satisfying story
and i kinda think thats why i dont gel with a lot of the fandom, cuz i really dont fw "danganronpa is trash im just here for the good bits" people. because i personally am a fan of this series and controversial opinion, but i only fw other fans who fulfil the baseline requirement of Liking The Fucking Thing
