Something interesting happened today; the WoC (women of color) subdivision of @timesupnow decided the world needs to mute RKelly, they took notice to these grassroots warriors & joined the push. Amazing, it is a long time coming (finally on blast) but many PoC (people of color) have been for a long time. R.Kelly has been the cause of many arguments within the PoC community since Alyliah & than that expletive video tape, added a whole other layer. In Chicago young women were warned about his preying ways. Last year (July 2017) Oronike Odeleye, @suiteladyoro started a petition to get R. Kelly’s music off of Atlanta airwaves. Through petition she met Kenyette Barnes @kenyette_tish thus #MuteRKelly began & the battle. a beautiful diverse grassroots community of people that included many male allies, tirelessly fought & were there for his victims. They have done a lot damage city by city to RKelly current tour & up against a lot opposition, threats etc... These two women put themselves out there & gathered male allies, they were subjected to A LOT hate, let’s not forget the @wendyshow dismissed them nationally. They were also left out the narrative but fought tirelessly w/their allies for WoC. let’s appreciate all their hard work & dedication in making sure these women weren’t forgotten & stopped being excluded from the conversation. Glad, YOU found not taking that role pivotal. Thrilled, YOU “had enough of being undervalued, enough of being undermined, enough of being disrespected, because of my gender.” Perplexed that YOU are “excited that this movement challenges the loneliness & isolation we have all felt in relatively insignificant or extreme situations.“ Dumbfounded YOU said it was an opportunity for women in the public eye to “speak for other women who are outside and invisible”. What lovely walking contradiction you are. In honor of #flashbackfriday, let’s go back to Oct 27th 2017 in RollingStone (slide attached) when you decided 38 women, which were called a “sisterhood” of MeToo by CNN were “liars, cocksuckers & cunts” with YOUR continued complicity & silence, to this day. Yet, you stand on soap preaching what again? You preached accountability in speech yet YOU have shown none. Shame on @guardian @timesupnow @unwomen for putting you on panel & giving you a platform. Says a lot bout their research & being in touch with the environment. Oh & job well done on triggering & disregard 400+ women with allegations against James Toback. You all continue to do a disservice to MeToo & the renegades that came before all of YOU. Metoo is about the abuse of power & the demoralization/harassment of women.
