4. Did you discover any new authors that you love this year?

I had never read Martha Wells before this year, so MurderBot was a fun ‘discovery’. 

Naomi Alderman was new to me.  

Cat Sebastian (period M/M romance, which was described to me as very explicit which, since I come from fic, left me concerned.  What were these proper regency gentlemen doing behind closed doors? What the hell counts as very explicit.   What sort of kink gets a ‘very’?    They have sex.  That’s it. For normal readers, cocks and lube count as very explicit.  Fic has left me with a very strange frame of reference for levels of heat in romance.)

I’d never read any William Alexander before, and he was wonderful.

I’d never read Ursula Vernon before

5.  What genre did you read the most of?

SFF.  But that is always the case.  I wander off to literary and romance, but I always return to fantasy and science fiction.

He’s a 70s child, so I’d imagine plenty of Led Zeppelin, Simon and Garfunkle, Queen, The Who, Pink Floyd, The Clash...

2. How did you get into it?

Years ago, one of the other mothers in hippy playgroup mentioned on FB that she was doing nano and I looked it up and was horrified.  Who’d want to write a novel?  And 50,000 words in a month?  Was that even possible?

Hermione Granger finds Severus Snape living above an apothecary.  She plans to turn him into the Ministry because all Death Eaters - even heroic ones - need to stand trial, but he holds her off by saying he can teach her to make the draught that saved his life.  Every day he teaches her more about potion making, and every day she asks when he’ll get to the promised lesson.  Maybe tomorrow, he says.  A retelling of A Thousand and One Nights.

20. what’s your biggest dream as a writer?Published.  Hit list.  Successful movie.  You know, just the basics lol. But I can’t do any of that without getting an agent, and you know how well that’s going.

21. what’s your favorite punctuation mark?I love semi-colons SO MUCH.  I have to restrain myself.

24. what’s the first piece you remember writing?This godawful poem about a unicorn in third grade.  PAINFUL.
